    Compression test

    My brother has a 1973 85hp Johnson V-4 all 4 cyl. are between 63 and 65 psi
does this sound right? He said his mech. told him this is a low compression engine.
Engine starts but when he gives it gas it shuts off this happens when its in the water change fuel pumps, checked bulb stays hard, replaced fuel lines the only other thing i can think of is carbs. need rebuilding.

I hate to tell you this but I strongly believe its time to update your power. While your enigne may run on that low compression, your making no power, using a ton of gas and with the age of it, its going to nickle and dime you to death.

    Re: Compression test (johnrude)

Thanks Only reason I ask the question is this mech. had told my brother that it is a low comp. engine and the comp. was fine.
