    Might have solved my problem

I have never understood why my XB-21 with 250XS has been so much slower than the others on here. So this evening I decided to check the hotfoot out to see if the throttle lever was going all the way with the pedal depressed all the way. Turns out it wasn't. I adjusted the screw on the back of the hotfoot to let the pedal travel farther to where the throttle lever went almost all the way to the hard stop. I took the boat out with a passenger along and the motor picked up 400 rpms from doing this. It went from 5700 rpms with the 27" bravo xs to 6130 rpms and gained 4 mph in the process. It also came out of the hole a lot better.

I've had this boat 2.5 years and I've complained to everybody I knew to complain to about how damned shitty my motor was and nobody ever checked this. Is this a common issue? I was ready to sell my boat over this!!! I still have a little more adjustment left to get the throttle lever on the motor to go all the way to the stop. On the one hand I'm excited that I figured something out but on the other I'm kind of pissed about this. Anybody that owns a go fast boat knows what I have went through trying to get this thing to run and then it boils down to something that took 5 minutes to fix....

I would be having a discussion with whoever installed the motor. Looks like that should be on the "we gotta check this" list.

Sure enough jam nut was backed out all the way and stop bolt needed 6 full turn's. Now the throttle roller at WOT rest's at the bottom valley on the throttle plate. Will try tomorrow and see if my hole shot with the Bravo 1XS 29P comes out a little better with a full load. Hope this help's because I don't want to drill extra holes in the new prop.

The cable adjustment is probably the number one most over looked power robber there is.
I've had customers that have owned boats for 5 yrs. plus that thought they were running as fast and had the best hole shot they could have until we adjusted the hot foot to wot. They thought they had a rocket after that.

    Lee.

On the throttle plate on the motor , at WOT the roller is now at the bottom of the valley just before the roller starts to rise upward. Is this correct.

    Thanks Manny

Re: Might have solved my problem (The Whip)

Happened to me also, I picked up 6 miles per hour loaded and 9 mph unloaded, and I went from barely being able to slalom with a 24 to being able to slalom with a 26 which is what I have gotten my best speed with 83.8. I was wonder how people ever were turning the 28's and 30s' to a checking everywhere for a 27 and 28 prop.

I found the same thing with my 05' 250XS. It was only opening the butterfly about 70%. Made a world of difference overall. I noticed that the throttle butterfly looked that it had been in the correct position at one time.

I think part of the reason techs don't look to hard is even when only getting part trottle we are still faster than they think the motor should go and it still out accelerates other boats of a simlar size...

    Manny,
While someone is holding the throttle wide open, push up on the roller/ball on the butterfly lever, you want it to just barely have any slack, like 1/16" or so. Just enough not to put it in a bind.

Glad to hear ya solved you problem! And discovered hopefully that you have the power to go along with it.

BTW, for anyone with a foot throttle, it is a good idea to crawl under the dash occasionally and check the hardware holding all the components together. I discovered the main bolt securing the pedal to the base (pivot point) coming loose and the large cylindrical barrel with the hex head screw up near the top getting loose.

Don't forget to carry an extra plate return spring as well in case it ever breaks!! I've never had it happen to me on my old boat or my Ally but I'm told they will break. Now that would be enough to make ya crap your pants!!
