We found out by flow testing that boring the 34mm bore to 36mm only increased flow by 1%. The problem is the bore at the throtle plate is 39mm but when you subtract the area of the throttle shaft your back down to 34mm. So, I modified the throttle shafts and can now use all 36mm of the bore. The difference was a gain of almost 200rpm and a new top speed of 91mph.

    Modified throttle plates/shafts

    IMAG1770.jpg IMAG1776.jpg IMAG1777.jpg

Temp was 91 degrees and very humid.

Broke into the 90's with my 30ET running 90.0 exactly at 7150rpm.
Switched to a prop that LazerEd had given me to try and a fellow member/friend bought. Its a 33 pitch 4 blade cleaver and ran 90.8mph at 7000rpm and was sketchy as all !@$#
It was like riding a skate board on an ice rink. I think I was about 20 degrees sideways at wide open. A 32ET would put me solidly in the low 90's but I would need bigger to go any faster. Bummer because my 30ET is brand new.

The bad news, I broke a new Boysens reed in about 4 miles of 7000 rpm running. Thats my third set in 15 hours. This time the top petals look fine and were all laying flat. Unfortunately I broke the corner off a bottom petal.
My cages will be on the way to Chris Carson Marine in the morning. I am not blaming Boysen as my motor is not really what they were designed for but they are not working for me and CCM reeds always did in the past. I only tried the Boysens since they covered my cut cages (two stage reeds). I never even thought to ask Chris about cutting me a custom single stage set with bigger petals. Maybe Chris can chime in on his thoughts about the reeds.

I may have been able to squeak a little more out of that cleaver but when the reed broke the boat wouldnt even get on plane. I knew what it was right away and as bad as the boat handled with that prop its probably for the better. I just need a solid set of reeds I can use and work on my setup a little more. I think the carbs are dialed in very well and safe now. I will order some reemers to do some fine tuning.

Basically other than reeds and some little setup tweaks, I'm finally there. I dont know of any other 4 cylinder pump gas pleasure boats running in the 90's and thats exactly what I was shooting for. With the ET, the boat is rock solid at those speeds with just a tick of positive trim. One of our members got some video of the 90+ passes today and will hopefully upload them.

Thanks to EVERYONE who helped with this project!

Got my new reeds from Chris Carson Marine and just fired it up on the hose. The throttle response blipping the linkage on the hose is definitely sharper. CCM cut me a custom set of reeds for my ported cages and got them to me in 4 days. Freaky fast...
Ill run it today or tomorrow.

The CCM reeds survived several long passes above 7000rpm and one 7500 rpm pass where I held it for a good 30 seconds. The Boysens would never have made it so I think I am heading in the right direction. Had a blast today with a 25 pitch prop runninhg just over 80mph. Time to put the big prop back on and let her eat.

Does anyone have a source for the Yamaha 220 special intake stuffers for the Yammi v4? I'd like to get a set to try out but can't locate any.

boatdoctor - we can modify your reed cages. Give us a shout.
And we are checking to see if we still have any of those intake stuffers laying around anywhere.

    The difference is huge.

Matt, what kind if improvements have you found with ported cages? I am about to start on another set and going to be a little more conservative leaving more sealing and support for the reeds.

You guys should just make some. They would be a great item to add to your lineup and easy enough to make. I know someone who made a copy out of wood and coated it with epoxy resin. Worked perfect.
You could actually make something better with a little work. Something that took up more space and helped flow toward the crank. each cylinder would be a little different but it would be a great product.

I had the boat out on Sunday. Low end was a bit snappier with a full load and full livewell. Easy to install if you're good with a wrench.

oats been laid up for about a month. I tore up a propshaft and just have not had time to fix it until yesterday. Chris Carson is also sending me another set of reeds to try and I have another set of cages that I left a little more meat for the reeds to seal.

Ill be testing some carb mods I did in the near future. I took my 34mm carbs that were bored to 36mm with custom plates and epoxied in the gap between the two bores and blended in the "hump" where it transitions just before the emulsion tube. I also picked up a set of Kottman velocity stacks and will try with and without them.

I said it would run 94mph and it did.

94mph t 7050rpm with 32 x 15 Performance Propeller ET and a set of .106"/2.7mm (#36 index drill) drilled jets. The stock jets were 1.80mm.
The carb mods and new reeds worked awesome. I can not beleive how much fuel this thing is taking and its never 4 stroked.

    Prop calculator show 12% and a 34 x 15 should put me around 96-97mph.
