There isn't any, but 440# of motor weight, or 3.0L displacement or less is specified. Recommended hp for an xb03 is is 115 to 175.

57 yrs and I'm still butchering the english language. As you would expect, Lee is correct. I should have said LESS than 3.0L. Glad one of us is on the ball.

The reason I ask was for insurance purpose's. There was one for sale here a few week's ago with a 280 on it. I figured it was overpowered, that's why I asked. Which is a 3.0 liter, a 225 or a 250?

There both 3.0 liters. Now a 225 ProMax or Promax X is a 2.5. But, the standard 225 pro xs or opti is a 3.0 liter.

    Re: XB-2003 (K-DAWG)

    the 280 is a 2.5 as well and the 260 would be a 2.5

    Re: XB-2003 (allisonxb2003)

I have a 280 on mine and had no problem getting insurance. Like was said in an earlier post, there is no rating on them. There is only a recommendation of 90-150 for warranty purposes. I believe it is any boat over 20'1" is unrated. If it is not that it is somewhere close.

    Re: XB-2003 (padura)

Correct......any boat over 20' is not required to be rated by the USCG.
however they can still be rated by the manufacture or by using the coast guard formula. Which I can't remember--but it's length times width plus transom height divided by the ballistic coefeciant of a 9mm x the age of your underwear...or something like that

The old "recomended" plate has and will continue to cause issues. with tournament rules and some insurance companies.

Even though the USCG does not require a rating on vessels over 20' some tournaments and underwriters do. There more concerned with there money or liability in case something happens. With a boat that has a 200--300 HP motor on it.. But has a "recomended" rating way below that.
