I have done a search and didn't turn up much information, maybe you guys can help. I have a 1992 Johnson F/S 150. Does this engine have an internal fuel filter or do I need to add one on. If I need to add one what would you suggest. Thanks

That is correct, the fuel filter is behind the air box, its part of the fuel component bracket.
Thanks for the information. Another question: How often should this filter be changed or cleaned. Would installing a canister or inline filter be an advantage.
That filter should be cleaned when you have your motor serviced, the in line filter or canister is your choice....Make sure if you install one of these two, that it has 3/8 inlets and outlets.
Rusty,
Which type of filter would you recommend to install. By an inline, I am talking about the small glass tube that has the filter inside. Does this type do any good. I know that it doesn't separate water and only filters out particles. Should I go with the cannister or just keep the original filter serviced. TIA
John
I would not recommend the glass one, I have to remove those filters because they restrict the fuel flow, if you have trouble in your area with trash or water in the fuel then get a canister type.
Rusty,
Thanks for the info. I had one of these on another Johnson FS and it seemed to work fine but I'm not going to install the filter on this motot if you don't think it is a good idea. I think that I will just service the one on the motor and let it go at that. Thanks again.
John
Put the cannister "spin-on" filter in the boat. It is a finer filtering element that will stop minute particles and it settles out water that can get into your fuel tank from bad fuel, cap left open in the rain, and normal condensation.
Trailer Boats magazine tested filters in a last years issue and named Tempo the "best buy".
