Which series of Megabass rods would be comparable to a NRX or ZBone?
Which series of Megabass rods would be comparable to a NRX or ZBone?
There isn't always a linear progression in the Megabass hierarchy as with Loomis. GL2, GL3, IMX, GLX, NRX for example. Yes, the XX are the "entry level" rods, but once you reach the Evoluzion Big Taper series, Phase III, X7, or even ARMS it isn't that one series is "better" than the others, they simply offer different features, tapers, design, etc. Individual rods within each of those series may be the best tool for a particular technique, or group of techniques.

Gary, what megabass rod would be similar to a 854 or 855?
What would be the match to a NRX 803c?
Gary - give me a shakedown of the rods and reels you would have in your boat to fish tournaments next year. I will be on Mitchell, Lay, Logan, Guntersville, Pickwick, Wheeler, Neeley, Smith, Warrior and maybe others. Let me know what I should have at a minimum?
Thanks!
I'd say the Phase III Bearing Down is likely the closest, but the Bearing Down has more backbone and a fast taper rather than the extra fast on the NRX 803c. It's more like an 804 NRX, just nicer
Which ones to be specific? JWR GLX, BCR GLX, NRX, Crankbait? Megabass rods tend to have a softer taper than some of the fast/extra fast Loomis jig and worm rods. There are some exceptions however...

BadBee - we need to talk on the phone. Shoot me a PM with your number and a good time to talk. We'll set up a time for you to come by the shop and handle a bunch of these Megabass rods. That will help your decision tremendously. When guys get these in their hands, they usually walk out of the shop with one or more of them, especially the XX series! They're priced right in the wheel house of most tournament anglers and deliver amazing quality and performance that surpasses many similarly priced competitors, and even more expensive competitors!

Bronzefly is spot-on. Once you put one of the Orochi XX's in your hand, they will sell themselves. Great rods that are very sensitive. The dropshot rod is unbelievably sensitive.
I've got two of them already and will be adding a few more to my arsenal soon.
