    Evinrude Help needed

I had my boat in shop. Had dailed to put plug in while at T-Bend, and tired to get up on plane. No chance, in fact transom was extremely low. She ran, sputtered, ran, sputtered, ran. I took it to shop, aasked to have tanks drained, and cleared. The mechanic said he tested and no water in gas tanks. So I took it to the lake, drop her in at launch, and she started fine. Ran fien, until I put her in gear. She wouldn't get over 1300 RPMs. I idled around to sih, a little. Then she wouldn't even start. The motor turns over, but doesn't fire up. Am I looking at huge problems, or could it be minor. Some shade-tree folks say it might be the stater or power pack. How mush should I spend in these if it is? I am new to this page, and appreciate any adivise. Thank you.
Sorry, the model is a '94 Ecinrude Intruder (V6)model # E175ELGOM, serial number is: E5000821.
I happened again yesterday. I launched at Amistadput her up on plane, everything seemd fine. I hadn't gone more than a quarter mile when she started surging. Like a horse loaping. I was down the lake when I tried to return, she just wouldn't go more than 13 RPMs IN GEAR. In nutraul, I can get tons of RPMS. Just not under a load. I tried to proceed up the lake at 1300 RPMS, since it was better than on trolling motor (wind). after about 1 mile, she started suging again, and then whe got up on plane, ran better but not totally smooth. I need help! The mechanic said he couldn't make it repeat the problem. I have had the motor to the mechanic twice this month. Can't go out on the big water, if I can't trust to get me back. Please help. Thank you again.

Is the motor making any horrible clunking noises or throwing peices of metal anywhere ? If not, it's probably fuel or fire so start by eliminating things. Any alarms ? You can hook up an alternate fuel tank and go for a spin. If the problem persists, you have eliminated fuel. Maybe there is no water in your tank because it's all been sucked into the engine ? Any melted wires, goo dripping out from under the flywheel, pinched wires or loose connections, bad grounds, corrosion, crappy worn or damaged spark plug leads

Does it cut in and out abruptly or more of a surge over a couple of seconds ?

If it was mine, I'd check compression and have a look at the plugs first. Next time it acts up, get somewhere you can pull the plugs. If any aren't firing, they will be wet. If you have any that look nice and shiny, you're probably getting water in those cylinders...maybe a head gasket

I'm not a trained mechanic but thats what I'd do

Did you check your fuel primer bulb?
