E TEC 50 or 60 ?
Kinda new to boating, purchased a used 18' Bass Buggy Pontoon with a 1996 Evinrude 50 SPL. Getting ready to purchase a new 06 50 HP E Tec and was wondering if I should just go ahead and buy a 60 hp instead. Is the differences worth it? Will there really be much of a diffence? I would appreciate any and all opinions. Thanks for you time.

I would put the biggest engine that the boat is rated for. You will eventually recover the extra money in fuel savings. And re-sale would be better also. I think that is the same boat my in-laws used to have. It had a 75 Force on it. I am not a Force Outboard fan (Same as the old Chrysler, and they are no longer even in production now). But, it pushed their boat good. Fished mostly, but also pulled the yung-uns on tubes & such with it. You usually can't go wrong with more horse power.
And welcome to the BBC.

The 50HP E-TEC has the same displacement as the 60HP (52 CI). The older 50HP you are replacing only had 45CI. The 50HP will push your pontoon boat just as well as the 60HP and will save you some cash. Use some of the savings to purchase a stainless steel propeller.
