Wasn't so sure when his name was 1st mentioned as a candidate but after reading a good bit about him and watching the press conference I think he will do well .

He has done pretty well at Ohio, hopefully he will do well at Illinois. The thing about being a coach at Illinois is that they do not recruit very well in the Chicago area, i believe it has to do with U of I not being willing to pay $$ for the great talent in the area. Hard to compete with other schools that have no problem dealing with agents for high school talent. Good luck to him though.

Yes recruiting in the public league will be his biggest challenge, the expectation has been set that U of I wants the talent out of the public league. I listened to his press conference and he wants to recruit kids with a passion to earn a degree, that sounds great but that is not going to win you basketball games as bad as that sounds. If he can land Jabari Parker he may have a chance but U of I just can not compete against Duke, U of K, North Carolina.

I am an OU fan and the University is roughly 25 minutes from my house. As far as recruiting, I think he will do just fine. Although OU is a D1 school, he had immense recruiting competition. Penn State, Ohio State, WVU and Indiana all recruit here.

Lets face it, both in football and Basketball, OU was not getting the best talent, they were getting what the other schools did not want. With that lesser talent, he did a dang fine job. The talent at UI, no matter who he gets, will be better than what he had at OU. That being said, his competition on the court will also have better talent, the Big 10 is way stronger as a league than the MAC.

Well, he has done well there, maybe it will rub off on the Illini.
