Effective with Version 5.01 and later, LEVEL ONE (1) MercMonitors are now capable of RECEIVING GPS speed over NMEA-2000.
All other "RX" (or receive) functions are reserved for Level 2 (or higher) MercMonitor(s).![]()

so all I need it the mercmonito and I'm good? level 2 is the best one correct? I dont see any boats with just that. They all have other gauges also
The mercmonitor can display 3 items at a time. It may be handy to have a tachometer, water pressure gauge, water temperature gauge that you can see at a glance when you are running that blazer at 90.

Here are my SC1000 gauges with a newly purchased Mercury Gateway cable from Don that recieves data from my Verado engine to the HDS-10 on my console via a NMEA network. You can add or delete data on the HDS-10 on the screen and or change the location and size of the data on the screen. Very nice features, very easy to see at high speeds even when I have my chart and sonar ect split screening with the Information page. I had a difficult time seeing the smaller digital readouts on the SC1000 while traveling at high speeds but then again im 47 now and my eyes are not what they used to be. :)

I don't have a dash or motor yet. Loo. I am ordering a new storm boat with a new 250 proxs. I'm just trying to figure what gauges I need. I can put them anywhere but I want to put the least as possible. After researching I'm thinking I'm gonna do a sc1000 tack and a mercmontior with gateway. I'm just not sure which mercmontior to get?

Mercury makes an awesome product but communicating functional specifications is definitely not their strength. I would like to replace my SC1000 tach with a mercmonitor but I'm totally confused with versions.
I have a wake boat and do not forsee any future need for a nmea2000 network so was considering the base "eco monitor" version (8M0050765). I also have a sc1000 smart tow pro with gps based speed etc. If i use the base non nmea2000 merc monitor will it display information from the smart tow gauge such as gps speed and the smart tow setting? Presumably won't be able to control the smart tow with the base version?
Second question, the boat is a v-drive so trim is managed through a single lenco trim tab which is controlled through the trim switch on the mercury throttle (so I assume it is somehow already on the smart craft network). Any idea how I can pull the trim position information into the merc monitor?
I'll narrow down the first few versions a bit for you:
-BASIC (Eco) MercMonitor: Handles all available Smartcraft data on the FACE of the instrument. NO Nmea-2000 gateway, and face is not polarized.
-Level (1) MercMonitor: Adds a Polarized Lense/face, and a general NMEA-2000 Interface.
-Level (2) MercMonitor: Expanded NMEA-2000 Gateway, also happens to add Smart-Tow (RPM)
-Level (3) MercMonitor: Adds Smart-Tow Speed (GPS) and Dual-Engine NMEA-2000 Gateway.
If you install a MercMonitor with your CURRENT Smart-Tow Pro instruments in place, the MercMonitor would need to be set up as a "Station-2" (slave) instrument. It would not handle any calibration functions (those would remain a part of the Primary Instrument).
Tab data may be able to come through NMEA-2000... but your Tabs are NOT normally directly connected to the Smartcraft System. You merely have the wiring that operates them connected to the rocker switch in the control handle.![]()

So if I set the mercmonitor as a slave will I get the smart tow data displayed on the mercmonitor or does this screen not exist on the basic version? Will I be able to adjust the smart tow settings from the slave?
Smart-tow is only available on Level-2 or higher MercMonitors (you would see nothing that refers to it in a Basic or Level-1).
A "slave" instrument (even a Level-2 or higher) would defer that information to the MASTER instrument (or would carry those functions itself, if it was (itself) the MASTER instrument).

Thanks again, hugely appreciated. Last question on the subject, I promise. If i get a level 3 mercmonitor or a vesselview and want to use this as the master, will I have to recalibrate everything or is the calibration saved to the ecu? Can this be copied or imported to the new displays? Also, how do I make the sc1000 gauges become slaves?
Calibrations must be set within each instrument, as the instrument is set up.
There is a method of importing those setups on the Vessel View... but it's only good for going from one Vessel-View (to another of the same series).
To make other Smartcraft Instruments a "slave"- their settings must be reset to "defaults"- the instrument taken off line before it goes through it's auto-detect feature, and then brought back ON line AFTER the Master Instrument is in place and set up (thus allowing it to become a "slave", or Station-2 Instrument).
