Bought a brand new F150 XLT, towing question

First off I want to thank all of those who gave me their opinions and recommendations on the Ford F-150. That thread I made really helped me out. I decided to go take advantage of all the incentives and discounts and got the 5.0L. So far I am pleased with what power it has under 3k rpms.

The question I have now is how many miles would you put on it until you would start towing a boat? It currently has around 100. I want to do it right and break it in because I am going to have this truck for a long time. I want to do everything right.

^^ this ^^ I'm sure it's in your owners manual also.

Re: Bought a brand new F150 XLT, towing question (pabassmastr)

    Honestly?

If I wanted to go fishing, I'd hook up the boat and go. I don't think I'd break out a fifth wheel or a large camper, but a bass boat I would just go on and use it.

Yours is a smaller boat if I see the picture right, so I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

Most break in on new trucks is miles at varied speed, from what my manuals have said. Go fill it up and run it dry and you'll be done if you get out on the highways.

Drive it!!!! The engines now a days are WAY better than years of the past. The owners manual might say that, but like already said Go Fishing!!! congrats on the new ride also

Re: Bought a brand new F150 XLT, towing question (pabassmastr)

just went and looked up the manual as best I could find.

Looks like its 1,000 miles, varied speeds, not fast starts is what ford says.

    What does your manual say?

Probally changes by manufacturer but i believe it is 500-1000 miles recommended.

And when you tow with it the first few times take it easy and vary your speed... Dan

Just use it, it's under warranty. You should see all the things we used to do with vehicles fresh off the line.

I would go by what the manual recommends, it's there for a reason.

Re: Bought a brand new F150 XLT, towing question (Al from Canada)

When I bought my 09 Chevy Silverado I towed the boat to the dealership with my trade in then hooked up to the new truck and towed it straight to the state of Maine from Virginia. Almost 3 years and 73,000 miles later not one problem yet.

I doubt towing a bass boat matters.

Now if you were gonna pull a LOG WAGON or Tandem car hauler ........ might think about that a minute or two.
