I might be Done with Tennis Shoes & the like..............

Been trying to find shoes that last & fit well for long time. Tried all the major brands as well as New Balance. I just can't seem to find a pair I can stand on concrete most of the Day. At best I can't even get a year out of them, most times barely 6 months till they start hurting my feet.

Talked to my local shoe center that specialices in Orthotics & seems that Podietrist's recomend them to people. Still looked at a few more New Balance shoes (looked at 856, 927, 812) but after talking to them about what I stand/walk on all day I think we may have found a pair that is going to work for me.

    Keen Briggs-II
    http://www.keenfootwear.com/us...grain)#

After putting them on in the store & walking around in them for about 10 minutes in store to get a feel for them. I have to say they are actually pretty comfortable. I know with full grain leather that I will have to break them in a but more, so that is not an issue. The insole in built very well. the instep is great & the toe room I have for my wide ass feet are great. I think my problem was I was always going to a half size too big, but only because of way they were made, and tappers at the toe. These have a very Wide toe & seem to be a really good fit. An added benefit is the outsole having anti-slip/oil resistant

I know this is only one day with them but I hope I get out of them what I expect. Knowing that Keen's are a very good brand of shoe.

My college professor son wore them when he was studying one summer in Russia and then hiked and backpacked around Europe before he came home. They were great shoes as they were comfortable and you could wear them with casual clothes or nicer clothes if you needed to dress up a little. They took a severe beating on the cobblestone sidewalks, rough terrain, rain etc. He never had one blister or foot problem and we bought him a new pair when he got home as the old ones were getting a little rank smelling.

I wear Keen sandals in the summer and have a pair of Keen Winter Boots I snowshoe in and they are both very comfortable and durable.

    Not a bad looking shoe.
I hear you, standing on concrete for any length of time just kills my back and I've never had a pair of shoes that helps.

Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

The reason your feet hurt is that the inserts of the shoes wear out. Get the shoes and buy a good pair of orthotic inserts. I use them for my running shoes and they make a huge difference.

I have some Keen water shoes I like during the summer on the boat. The best shoe I've found for what you describe is the Vasque brand. It's Red Wings trail or tennis shoe.

    John,

I used to have a pair of Vasque Hunting boots with the Vibram sole's. they were a damn good boot. Too bad they got out of the Hunting end fo things I've had the Irish Setters & Red wings as well. I've jsut been looking for something that didn;t have a 6-8" upper on it.

Have you ever tried some of the Rockports? When I worked in the airport and was on concrete floors all day I wore them and had no issues with fatigue and pain.

I hate to tell you but shoes wear out. Especially if you are standing in them all day on concrete. If you do a lot of walking on concrete you can bet you are wearing them out in less than 6 months. I walk numerous miles a day in a large facility and burn up a pair of $130 new balance about 3 times a year. Don't like paying for them but it beats the alternative.

No i have not, but I have tried Timberlands or something like that. They came recommended from a Customer of mine (salesman) who was on feet all day too. I had em about 8 months & lsot all of there Heel support (insole was still good). I also have a pair of Merrels but there more of a dress-type slip on, again they didnt last me long alternating between them & other shoes.

I know stuff is not make to last a long time, and I can be hard on them too. But jsut seems tought to find a Quality pair that will hold up for more than a year. Tennis/running/cross training shoes last even less

If that was the case I would see about dipping my feet in Rubber and looking at a re-tread in about 1000 miles

I can tell you from experience that the Rockports are very good. Pricey at 100-120 but well worth it. I worked both inside and out on the ramp at the airport and they held up very well. Not sure what you need but I was in shirt and tie every day so I had the wing tips but I'm sure they make others that might apply. Worth checking out but again, I'd go with a high quality insert. I use a brand called Super Feet and they are awesome for the pounding I give them when running.

The higher the number is for New balance the better the shoe. I have 1123's and use to walk 8 miles a day in them. very good comfortable shoes. used to have back and hip problems and these didnt solve the problem but sure helped with the discomfort.
