The E-Tec Uses the same cable as the old engine. The software is different.

I can't believe what they're charging for the laptop software. You could get a Palm Pilot, the needed serial cable adapter from ebay then buy the cable and Palm software from them and still make out better then the laptop software. I paid less for the Palm software from a local BRP dealer then what they're selling it for.

If you're going to buy the software, check with your local BPR dealers 1st. Some will sell to you, others won't. I know when I bought mine, the 1st dealer wanted to check with BRP before selling it, but the 2nd dealer I called had it in stock for me to buy.

    Re: 225 Etech Diag. (SC1800ETEC90)

I'm using a old, old Palm, a Palm IIIc. I did have to upgrade to OS to 4 to get it to work. I think any of the new Palms , mean anything with in the last 5 years will have OS 4 at minimum. I also think the original package BRP was selling to the dealers had either a Palm m500 or a m505. I think the m505 is a color model and they sell for around $50 on ebay.

With the Palm, you'll need a serial cable and a null modem adapter. For the serial cable, you can take a look at Auterraweb's Supported Palm list for the correct Serial Hotsync cable. Do NOT rely on this table for the Palm model itself because this is a list of Palm/Palm clones running Palm OS 3.0 or higher. Regardless, it does show the correct cable you need; once you pick the correct Palm.
    http://www.auterraweb.com/supportedpalms.html

Null modem adapters can be had at Radio Shack or the likes.

Once you've got all that, you only need the diagnostic software and the diagnostic cable. Go to DFI technologies for the cable (lost cost cable provider I know of) and check with your local BRP dealer for the software. I think I paid $40 for the Etec Palm software, which work on most Ficht/DI motors also.

BTW, if you end up with the Palm, you might want get Auterraweb's Dynoscan for your cars/trucks. I use it and it's fantastic! It not only reads generic OBDII codes, shows manufacturer specific codes, allows clearing of codes, gives other vehicle info and works a a pseudo dyno.
