    Who takes OTC allergy meds?

I usually have problems with some allergies especially in the spring, but they have never been bad enough for me to take anything..... But this year they have me miserable. I'm all stuffed up, eyes watering like no tomorrow, coughing and sneezing..... Decided to try out an over the counter remedy first.... What do you guys find works best? My girlfriend suggested Allegra....is there much of a difference in the otc meds?

tylenol sinus or the generic walgreen version. My issue is just more of sinus drainage and pressure. When the pollen and other crap get thick my sinus swell up and the pressure causes head aches that are very simliar to migraines. I will use Afrin nasal spray once a day for about 3 days and then I'm good. Have to be careful with Afrin because for some people it is very addicting.

I use Equate 1 a day allergy medicine. It's the same exact thing as Allegra, but cheaper.

The only downside to it is that I find it to be a preventative allergy medicine. I have to take it before my allergies start acting up, or it's useless. If my allergies are already acting up, I'll keep popping benadryl until I get them under control (usually takes the entire day) and then I'll take the 1 a day pill first thing in the morning the next day. It works great for me. Once I saw the warmer weather heading our way, I started taking the 1 a day, I think I started 2-3 days before the warm weather hit, and my allergies haven't bothered me yet this spring. Normally, my allergies are a nightmare. This OTC stuff works great.

I do now!!! Try zyrtec D behind the pharmacy counter for the antihistamines and/or mucinex D for the symptoms. Also, some saline nose spray to keep the snot locker washed out.

My wife takes this stuff. Same as the old Rx med.

My coworker shared some Walgreens antihistamine with me once. Tiny pills and it worked pretty well.

Never had a problem with allergies until about 10 years ago and now it seems like it gets worse each year. I've been taking Claritan and it's just like that commercial. I get all foggy and fuzzy and I take a Claritan and the world is clear again.

Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

At wal mart they have some alllergy med's for 88 cents. It's one a day but the one's I used were equal to Zyrtec. Work great and I've tried them all. OTC and perscription. These work just as good as any I have used.

I used to get allergy shots once a week and take perscription med's for allergy's. My doc died in June so I haven't had a shot since then or perscription med's.

I was surprised at how welll these worked and for 88 cents, you can beat it.
Why do people fish, some say people fish to get fish, this is obviously false

Jim, I take Zyrtec once daily. It makes a world of difference this time of year in ability to withstand the HIGH pollen.

I couldn't do anything but blowed my noses yesterday morning. Tried to see doctors but they're all book up. My pharmacist sis-in-law told me to get zyrtec and sudafed and afrin. I take the zyrtec with sudafed (24 hours kind) and used the Afrin. I was functional by mid-day and doing way way better this morning then yesterday.

My allergies started about 5 yrs ago and I have gone thru most OTC medications. Some helped the allergies but put me in a fog. the last two years Allavert has worked. Just remember whatever medication you take it takes a couple days to get into your system and work its best.

Zyrtec everyday of the year. It is the only thing I have found that works.

Another vote for Zyrtec. I start taking it just as the temps start rising, ie before the actual pollen season begins.

Re: Who takes OTC allergy meds? (ClarksHillGA)

You'll find certain medicines work better for different people. Claritin D 12 hr is what I take, but I have a combination of allergies and sinus issues so I need the decongestant. Zyrtec or Allegra never worked very well for me, but others swear by them. Same thing with my parents. Some mediciations can make you drowsy, so make sure you get non-drowsy if you plan on taking them during the day.
