Enough Procastrination - $hitty job done

Been dreading cracking open the basement ejector pit where my downstairs bathroom drains into. The float was stuck in the on position. I was lucky enough to hear the pump running non-stop one day so unplugged the pump and put an out of order sign on the bathroom....that was about 2 months ago.

Last night I finally did the dirty deed. Talk about a filthy, disgusting job. Bought a new float and got it all wired up. Put it all back together and bolted the lid shut and sealed with chaulk. Hopefully this is a job I won't have to do for a long time.

I can think of a lot of other things I would have done last night other than this.

We had a fully finished basement where the bedrooms for two of my daughters were. The second time the lift pump clogged, I had them help me clean it.

    Didn't happen a third time.

My house is below street level - I have one of those pumps for the entire house. I'm quite proficient at maintaining them after 20 years and two daughters.

The number one rule is if it didn't come out of you, it doesn't go down any drain or toilet.
