Parts Needed for 1978 Johnson 150hp (150TL78)

Hi Everyone....I have a 1978 Cajun with a 1978 Johnson 150HP V6 SeaKing.....I am resotring the boat and am currently repainting the outboard. I need P/N's for the following:

Cowl Gasket

Chrome Plate that mounts on front of engine...It is approx 6" x 7", has three colored bands and the 4th band is flat black with the Johnson Horse and the Logo Sea-Horse MagFlash CD on it

Decal Set for Cowl.

Can anyone help me here? Local dealer doesn't seem interested!

The chrome plate and decal kit are NLA and haven't been available for several years.

The rubber cowl gasket is still available. I don't know the number off the top of my head but I just bougth one last summer. They are about 30 bucks. They are black.

The 79 and newer models used white until about 1988. I have a brand new white one also. It was the last one available.

I will look the rubber seal up for you. I have the parts book. I don't use the rude site. It isn't completely accurate.

The decal stuff you won't be able to get unless you have it custom made. $$$$$$$$

Ebay, man! I have a '76 135 and first got an original manual and parts list for about $10 each. There is one seller that has a TON of n.o.s. OMC parts from the early 70's and 80's: 73SSNova I think is his name. He adds about 50 items a week, but you can email him if something you need isnt listed, he likely has it.

Can anyone perhaps provide a good closeup picture of the chrome plate? Or, better yet, the colors used? I can re-paint the plate if I know the correct colors.

Find a boat junkyard, they ususally save the good cowls for resale. Theres a guy around here that has probably 200 good ones from every year, and a mountain of lousy ones outside. He sells the good ones for $20-70 depending on the condition/year, and how much he thinks he can squeeze you for


If you are having a huge amt of trouble, I could get one for you and ship it.

Thanks for the photo....believe it or not, my plate is different from yours! I'll try and get a photo of it up. Could you possibly shoot me a photo of the side and other end of your cover? It'll make it easier for me to get the decals made.

321255 has a new #328686. It is still made and you can get it from your local dealer.

388783 Mitchs Marine is the only one that shows that have one (301) 424 3800

389846. Gonna be a hard find. I will put some feelers out there.

If you strike out on the chrome plate, all I need is a picture of it and I can probably get you a used one.

Thanks for the phone #. I'll call Monday and get it on order. I've already purchased the gasket and A FN NOOB has kindly provided the photos my Ex needs to cut the decals. Now all I have left is three more items:

0323291 KNOB,Lever
0320313 APPLIQUE
0385793 STYLINGCOVERASSY

Any ideas on where I might find these?

Is the "applique" the front plate you were looking for? He gave you a number to call for a new one. I can get you a used one (maybe) from a guy that has probably 200 or more OMC cowlings from just about every year.

Is it like the one in the picture, black plate with a chrome, raised seahorse logo?

How about a whole new cowl. Show me a picture and I'll go check Monday. 90% chance I can get you a good condition cowl.

That piece, Id take some Meguiars metal polish to it, and maybe buff it, then paint the red, white & blue (Or whatever it was) and call it a day!
