Made it to the Memphis area!

Well, after 2500 miles and over 200 gallons of gas, my wife and I made it to Collierville, TN. Started work at Nucor yesterday and they have us up in a corporate apt. in Collierville until we find a more permanent rental. We dont want to buy anything until we've been here awhile and know more about the area. Got my Allison in storage right now but man am I ever itchin' to get her out on the water down here! Anyone know of any good houses for rent in the Greater Memphis area/north Miss that will take a dog and a cat? haha! I'm in Dixie!!!

Welcome to the area! I'm in Germantown, just a little West of you. Collierville is a great town, and you have access to lots of water within two hours of you.
KY Lake, Pickwick, Sardis, Enid, Grenada, the MS. River oxbows.

If you have any questions about the area, I'd be glad to try and help.

I'm in about the same situation as you- starting next week Monday- but only moving from St. Louis to St. Joseph, MO (north of KC). I have a duplex identified, but the residents aren't moving out for a couple weeks- I'll have to stay in extended stay hotel for a couple weeks. At least my drive to my new place of work is only 4 hour drive. I interviewed for a job at St. Jude in Memphis, but I was overqualified. It would have been a good place to live though- lots of good crappie lakes down there into Mississippi, as well. Good luck-from another person moving to a different land of bar-b-que (KC versus Memphis is quite the rivalry in that cuisine)!

Stay in TN so you don't have to pay MS income taxes. I am looking to relocate back to TN from GA with that being one of the motivating factors. Besides my vehicle insurance doubling from moving here, state income tax is costing me $125 a week.

I would like to move back to TN. at some point to to avoid State Income Tax and luxury tax on boat, advelorum on car, etc. They would tax the 21 % oxygen we breath if they could measure what we use in GA.

Anyone have any suggestions for a good food/beverage service job in the area? My wife is looking around and is curious.

I can't help with finding a place to rent but Memphis is a pretty cool place. I worked in Memphis about 25 years ago for 4 months or so and loved it. There is great fishing, great music, great food and alot of 'other ' entertainment ..I've visted several times since and love it..There are a couple areas you need to stay away from (like any town that size) but you'll like it there..
