95 200 Johnson Lower Pivot Shaft Bushing

I'd like to start by saying thanks for the quick & helpful reply to my previous post regarding an alarm problem. Anyway, here we go again. The mod. # for my engine is J200TXEOC & Ser. # is GO3830172. I thought it was a 96 but these #'s show it to be a 95. I just noticed about an 1/8"of play where the steering arm goes through the lower swivel mounting bracket. The parts diagram shows a bushing(0336819) & seal. Does the power-head have to come off to get to this bushing? Is an 1/8" of play within specs? I checked another engine at my marina & there was no play at all. Engine & boat run fine. Thanks again for the help!

Re: 95 200 Johnson Lower Pivot Shaft Bushing (grady)

Most likely its the pivot shaft nut that is just loose and not the bushing, drop the gear case (disconnect speedo hose if equipped) use a motor hoist and BRP lifting eye to support the motor, remove the 6 motor mount bolts and swing the motor out of the way, you don't need to disconnect any thing else.

Remove the pivot shaft nut, clean the threads on the shaft and nut, reapply locktite and tight the snot out of the nut, I use a 1/2" impact and hold it till it stops turning.
