"No Oil" light and alarm comes on intermittently... Got it fixed...

I have a '99 21SS Extreme Stratos with a 2001 Evinrude 225 Rude Ram Ser # G04931950 Model # E225HSIF. While on the water yesterday the "No Oil" light and alarm started coming on intermittently. The oil reservoir is full, so I know it's not an "Out of oil" situation...

As soon as the alarm sounded I immediately I shut down the engine.. left it off for a short time, turn the key on let the computer cycle through its routine and after all the check lights would go off I would restart and the engine and it would run fine and strong until the next alarm. Sometimes this would be a minute or so and at other times it would be 5 minutes or more between alarms..

This situation occurred at all RPM ranges from idle to WOT. Any ideas on what to check and / or what to do? All help appreciated...

Welcome to the BBC Tom, get it to your dealer, they can check the codes but, I bet you need a oil injector.

Re: "No Oil" light and alarm comes on intermittently (RUSTY63)

    Rusty,

Thanks for the prompt reply and information.. I will get it into a.s.a.p., which will have to be next week sometime. However, I'm between a rock and a hard place until then as I am entered in a tournament competition on Monday that I must either fish or forfeit.

So here is my question: If I shut down the engine immediatly when the alarm sounds and then restart will this hurt the engine?

I would suggest you not run it at all.

Make you choice. A powerhead or make the one hour repair before running your engine again. One is much cheaper than the other. The no oil alarm is desperately trying to save your powerhead from a needless melt down.

What was the temperature when you had the problem and what oil are you using?

Re: "No Oil" light and alarm comes on intermittently (SEAHORSE)

I thought about that Seahorse but, he is in LA and its been fairly warm there.

So you guys will know what we are talking about, cold weather and XD-50 oil may cause a no oil light and horn at start up on the DI motors, One way to keep this from happening is to warm the oil tank with a heating pad....Please Use Common sense.....another way is to run the XD-100 when the temp is around 30 degrees or lower.

Re: "No Oil" light and alarm comes on intermittently (RUSTY63)

Thanks to everyone for all of your replies, especially Rusty... I'm going to take your advise and let it sit on the trailer...

Regarding the temp: I don't have a separate engine temp gage so I don't know what the water temp was but when I loaded my boat on the trailer and after hooking up the rear tie downs I washed my hand in the water stream that was coming out of the lower "Pee" hole and it was warm but certainly not hot.. Air temp was in the high 70's to low 80's and yeah the fish were bitting...

Regarding the oil: I use Pennzoil Marine Premium Plus Synthetic Blend and have been for over a year now... Could this be a problem? If so, why would it have waited this long to raise its ugly head?

Thanks again to all for your help..

When you take it in for repairs. Please post the repair shop's findings.
I have experienced this malady from time to time. I just used premix in my tank until I was assured that that the VRO was actually pumping.
Now at times I will get an occasional slight blip, less than millisecond while crabbing along at 800rpms.

I still would be interested in what the results of his problem. I am leaning toward a bad system check. I have changed mine a couple of times.
