Evinrude Overhaat Problem

A couple of Evinrude boat engine mechanics have told me that the 1997 Evinrude 200 HP and others have a built in overheat problem that Evinrude will not acknowledge. The newer models have a change that resolves this problem. The problem surfaces at high emgine loads with the result that sufficient cooling water doesnt get to the top two cylindars and they eventually fail due to overheating. One remanufacturer told me they resolve the problem with a machined in correction during the rebuild process. They claim thast their solution has been incorporated into the newer Evenrude engine blocks. Can anyone else verify this problem or share their experiences with us?

OK just a little run down. '93 OMC introduces the closed deck block, but keeps the open deck block. The '93 is a "F" model and is kind of a bastard the first adjustable carb model. Marfab has played with the block and see the errors of the engineers way. They have made some machining adjustments to open up the cooling passages, of course OMC ain't happy with the discovery and release the tech bulletin to cool by carb jets which DOES do the trick. MY 99-thru Carbed motors (read late '98) have the cooling mods done to the block. If you want to send the block to Marfab for the mods, It would be cheaper to strip the block and ship it then re-assemble with fresh stuff.
All in all they are great motors and with regular maintenance should give great service and good longevity.
