    Travel trailer and fishing question?

My wife and I have purchased a travel trailer and are looking forward to the new adventure of camping. My problem is I cant tow the RV and my boat obviously, and most of the places we want to visit are state parks with lakes. I know I am not the only one with this problem. How do you that RV arrange bass fishing while on the road? Renting a boat while there, hiring a transport of your own boat, what are some options I may not be looking at? We are trying to plan a couple of 1 week vacations to enjoy our new RV.

If you bought a 5th wheel, possibly you can tow the boat behind the 5th wheel trailer. We have a big pick up camper and tow either the boat, enclosed motorcycle trailer or jeep wrangler on getaways. Another option, depending on height of the trailer is to add a canoe on top of the trailer. We have a sportspal canoe and a 3hp engine. It works great for when we take the motorcycle trailer as we attach the canoe to the top of it....or tow the jeep and attach the canoe to the top of the jeep....either way we have a boat to fish from.

I have a Lance truck camper and I pull my boat. I usually stay at a tourny site for a week to prefish. I unload the trk camper it has electric jacks and only takes about 10 minutes.

Look and see if there are any long term campgrounds on the lakes you want to go to. Leave your camper for a month or two and tow the boat there every weekend.

Depends on the camper, your tow truck, and the size of boat.

I have a 5th wheel and a 21' boatg so we just tow with my truck and the wife tows the boat. I thought to tandem towing but i don't trust a hitch on the camper to hold my bass boat not to mention i would be longer than an 18 wheeler.

You'll soon figure out that if you want to just go camping the camper is fine however if you want to go fishing and also camp there is a problem of trying to fish without a boat. There aren't a lot of places that rent Bass boats you might find some smaller run about tiller drive rigs with no trolling motors. Nothing is worse than camping by a great fishing lake and not having access to a boat.

There is the option of hiring a guide at each stop which is an option if you only want to fish a short time at each lake.

Not sure how big your trailer is but dragging a camper around is highly overrated as private campgrounds are spendy and you burn way more gas. You can pretty well be assured that if you are a little nervous pulling it the wife isn't going to drive and you'll end up doing all the wheel time. Then there is all the set up time that you'll have to do plus storage and yearly maintenance.

It can be a lot less work and not a lot more expensive to rent a cabin and not have all the hassles of a trailer plus you'll have your boat a long. You also have a kitchen and can cook your own meals plus have a little more room to escape from one another as things can get pretty close in a camper. Plus if the camper is sitting out there not being used you get the guilt trips for paying all that money for it and not using it. I bought a good used one to make the wife happy and took a few good trips in it and after not wanting to get it out of winter storage rented a cabin for a trip south. The wife made the call that it was a whole lot easier on me and everyone not dragging that camper behind the vehicle and maybe we ought to get rid of it. I sold it three weeks later and never looked back.

Then there is the Minnesota option a lot of people do. They rent a year round spot by a lake leave their camper there all season and sort of use it as a lake cabin without having to actually own real estate. They bring there boat with them and trailer to nearby lakes.

I'm going to get a little plastic boat like a bass buggy and throw it in the back of the truck. Right now Atwoods here has them for $290.00

Maybe find a lake you like the leases RV spots for the summer. That way you can leave the trailer & even the boat if the place is secure. We have a spot we lease yearly. leave our trailer there and purchased a carport for the boat. It stays there year round. During the summer we leave one of our trucks there & drive the Honda back & forth. Saves us a ton on gas!

I tow the camper and let the wife tow the boat. She doesn't like it but is getting used to it.

That is exactly what I have, a Lance Truck camper and tow the boat. Sure, not as much room as a trailer, but sleeps good, make hot meals, and comes with complete bath. Only way to fly if you want to camp with a boat. I can load and unload mine as easy and as fast as most can do a trailer. As far as I'm concerned is a lot better than even a motor home as you use truck to load and unload boat and go site seeing or shopping if you want without breaking camp.

I always thought that would be a sweet set-up!

I am going to bite the bullet this summer, a friend is going to help with this trip. I will end up leasing a lot or buy a second truck by fall. Wife hasnt ask for much in our 32 years so I will bend over backwards to make sure she enjoys the camper. Thanks for everyones input, it is appreciated.
