    2000 johnson 225 carb ?

Hey guys i'm looking at purchasing a 1994 205 Hydrasport which has a 2000 225 Johnson carbed motor on it. It has about 150 hours on it. Before I check it out (compression etc.) does anyone know of any issues with these motors?
    Thanks for the replies.

Nope not much problem with these motors, just keep'em decarbed and run good oil in them, maybe time for a VRO due to age, we like to do a little modification to them to keep them running cool, if you decide to buy it we'll tell ya how to do it.

I'm not 100 % sure it's an HO but it does have the racing lower unit so I would assume it is. I'll have to take another look.

Fred, what do you mean a bigger jet. I am getting info because if I rebuild mine I would like somebody to tweak it a little. would ya' consider using some parts balanced by Monty racing in Fla. Im' just lookin' at a lot of options, just hope that the bore is not to messed up. Mimo' the 2000 225 ho is a great motor mine is broke at 300 hrs. because I was hard on her, stop and fish or 5600 rpms all my fault, Fred if ya' got any comments, let me know.

5600 rpms probably ain't what caused your motor's demiss.... There was a cooling issue on #2, so as a get by fix(vs. haveing a cooloing mod done) they richen up #2 cylinder....... as far as non stock parts, If you want reliablity, stay away.... these motors are already at the 247 hp mark, and make great engines in stock form...

Re: 2000 johnson 225 carb ? (THE WITCHDOCTOR)

Ohhh yea build them when they come in, nothing like a looper to build. The play area on them is whew!! But we don't mod here,,

The Mods we recommmend is what Craig sez, cool #2 carb by going up a size on the carb. Marfab will punch out somemore coolin and then you won't have to upsize the orifices on #2 but it is an easy cheap fix that OMC approved.

Andy, If you want to get your motor back right give me a holler, it may take me a few weeks but let me know how you want it to snap.

    Good grief, man!

I thought the cooling problems had been cleared up by 2000?!?!?! (At least on my 200HP, which is the same block.)

Fred, Marfab work on the parts very expensive, cause to me being a machinist in the past if they can open it up for more cooling all the better, plus any the you can do to give it some more giddyup would help. Lower unit is going to low-h2o.com to get Titus to fix skeg and add cavitation plate mod he does to help get on plane quicker. Making my own holeshot plate for jackplate. God I miss workin' in a machine shop, now I work on Gradall machines in constr. buss. Pay is good but not as fun!!! lookin' for more holeshot and grunt than top end speed.
