    Any HVAC guys?

Work up this morning and the house was around 55 degrees, the furnance was working when i went to bed last night. . . switched off all the circut breakers for 15 minutes then turned them backon. no heat. . . Went to Lowes and pickced up a new thermostat, but that didn't help, still no heat.

The system is a two stage heat pump. . . Anybody got any ideas of what to check before i call somebody that will cost me $$$$

    Thanks

If it was gas heat I could help. Service tech for 14 years but we don't have heat pumps up here. Make sure compressor is coming on. if no, possibly a bad capcitor. If yes does your fan come on... start with the basics...

Check the fuses in the disconnect outside. Take the side cover off and Press the contractor and see if fan runs and compressor .

No Compressor, No fan, too cold to try the AC.

is there a zoning board ? if so, check the fuse....sounds like youve lost a control circuit..there should be a fuse for the control transformer somewhere....either at the air handler or the condensor....most likely the A/H....

    Re: (mikepags)

there should be a 3 amp fuse on the circuit board inside the air handler.check that first.sounds like you have no control voltage.

    Re: (hanker71)

Checked the 5amp fuse in the air handler - it was popped.
Replaced it, the system ran for a few minutes until the outside unit kicked on then it blew the fuse again..

Called the service company took them less than an hour to fin the short and correct the problem - wow i have heat again . . . .

    Re: Any HVAC guys? (sclark)

Had this kind of happen to my electric heat pump. Although I still got heat running on Em. Turned out my outside fan unit thingy switch was turned off. It's outside in a small box beside the fan thingy. As for the actual electric heat itself? Maybe a switch on the main unit? Also check your thermostat. Had that happen a t home and it turned out it got bumped and was shut off.
