Recoil guides
I recently ordered a custom built drop-shot rod with micro recoil guides. I have never owned a rod with recoil guides but they seem to be very loud when I cast the rod almost like the line is catching on something. I noticed that 5 of the small eyes all have epoxy in the split part of the eyes which I am assuming is not correct. Just curious what experiences other people have had with the micro recoil guides. Oh yeah my line was also frayed and it doesn't appear there is anything wrong with the reel (stradic CI42500).

I don't hate recoils, but don't necessarily like them either. They are definitely loud and some people claim they groove, though I haven't seen that personally. As far as epoxy on the guide, that's a piss-poor build job and I'd talk to the custom builder. In my opinion, no custom rod should ever have recoils anyway; they're a ripoff compared to similarly priced Fuji's.

I have a BUNCH of rods with recoils. Only had issues with one, on an NRX. It broke at the rod. The only time I hear more noise from them is on the rod I use braid on. The rest have fluorocarbon line, and have no additional noise level. Sounds like the builder of your rod messed up, given the glue issue you mention. That may also be the reason you're having those other issues as well.

Thanks for the input guys. The rod is going back to the builder today, so hopefully they stand behind their product and fix the problem.

I run all recoils on my power tackles. Love them don't care about noise anyways im hard on inserts and the recoils save me alot of money in repairs
