At my dealer getting some oil,talking to a mechanic he said my 150 Intruder was a 1st year? Intruder. He said the 1st year they came out that they were factory hopped up and made 177 hp at the prop. Anybody heard/know anything about this? Just cuoious?

Didn't those motors get a "recall" to detune them? If his was one of the ones that was detuned how would he know and how hard would it be to turn it back to it's orignal output of 177?? Now this wouldn't be considered a hop-up due to it coming from the factory that way!!

The recall wasn't to detune per-say but that was the effect of it. I can't remember exactly what they did. A lot of guys got suckered on that one. Take your boat in for a supposedly defective part and get it back running 3 mph slower and the dealer says its just the wrong prop, buy a new one.
The unmolested ones do make around 177 HP. That's 12 HP over what is allowed.
CM, what was that recall again? I just can't remember.
There should be a warranty history on the motor in question that will tell if it has had the recall done.
I'm running it on a '92 Ranger 482...it turns a 27 pitch shooter at 5600 with 2 people both tanks of gas....no GPS,but going to borrow a handheld one and try tomorrow to see how fast it'll go....my 1st Ranger & Rude motor....neighbor bought it new & fished it about 2yrs....been in his garage ever since....Ibought it from,put new trolling motor,batteries,oil pump,depth finders ,tires on it...had carbs gone thru,lower unit seals replaced,a general tune up,....really impressed with motor,starts rite up...runs hard..I have only $7500 in it so far.
If your turning that thing 5600 with a 27 shooter (its actually closer to 25 on a shooter) on that big heavy hull then you have not had the recall done. My advice, don't do it.
I ran a 27 shooter on my Ranger 361V with a Johnson GT175. I turned it 5850 but my boat is lighter and has a faster hull design. You are indeed getting 175 out of it.
OMC replaced the cylinder heads on the 1991 motors.
