    Help Modifying Jig Mold

I'm using a heavier gauge hook than what is recommended in my Do-It mold and it's causing the collar to pour incorrectly. It's the poison tail mold which has a double collar. What the best way to make the collar area slightly larger so the lead has more room to flow around the hook? Sandpaper, file, drimmel, etc.?

    Thanks!

http://www.barlowstackle.com/C....aspx 1st try using this stuff, it's helped me with several problem molds. Secondly, get your lead really hot, preheat the mold til it's almost too hot to touch the metal part, and if these still don't do it, put a piece of masking tape vertically on one face of the mold to hold it open slightly.
Try all these before modifying your mold. I pour that mold with Mustad 32886 heavy wire hooks, it takes a bit of tweaking to get perfect pours every time.

Heat your mold up good and use a candle to smoke up the mold. Pretty much hold the flame of the candle up to the mold and it will turn it black. The candle trick usually works if a mold isnt pouring good

Yes... Also if your pouring with a pot, put the nipple of the pot into the pour hole and "inject" the lead faster. Many times the bigger hook dont let the mold vent to allow for lead to move into the cavity. Personally I would open up the last area where lead is on the hook to let air out. Use even a bigger hook or wire and slam the mold closed.

Thats a similar problem that a friend of mine had with a stair building jig. He had it altered at a machine shop. If you need a precison cut have a small machine shop do it for you or a machinist friend with access to a manual milling machine.

Thanks! The other problem I have is that the spout of my pot stops up between every pour. Fluxing makes it a little better but it still slows down the process having to stick a nail in the spout every time. It's a Lee production pot IV.

Sounds like you have been using wheel weights for lead... Too much crap to plug up the pot. Needs to be cleaned out or replaced.

I've been using decoy weights. I've dumped all the lead out and scraped the bottom but it started doing it again.
