    Hey Kansas City area folks...

I know there will be different opinions and I'm not looking to get anybody's panties in a wad, but I'll be headed toward the KC area soon and would like to know where the best BBQ ribs and pulled pork can be had? Prefer dry rub type with sauce on the side. The closer to I-35 and/or I-435 the better. Thanks in advance...appreciate it!

Dude .......Arthur Bryants. Can't go wrong. Get it every single time on the way out of KC on my way back to STL. Just had it 2 weeks ago and its hard to beat. Its less than a mile south of I-70 on Brooklyn (I believe thats the road). Its dry and you just use sauce as you please. I myself get ribs, brisket and sausage. They have it all and it is legit. Burnt ends, chicken, etc...they have it. I am somewhat of a BBQ connoisseur as I have had some of the more renowned BBQ from Salt Lick outside of Austin Texas to KC's BBQ places. Arthur Bryants is at the top of my list.

Gates is really good. It's just off 435 at the state line.

Actually I've heard of Bryants. If I end up there I will definitely also try the brisket...probably for dessert! Is it way off the beaten path from I-35/I-435?

Jack Stack is my favorite. A little higher type BBQ, but really good stuff. North on Metcalf a mile or so from 435. Also Oklahoma Joes is darn good. 119th and 35 in Olathe. Can't go wrong with either place.

Chad, that place looks like just what I'm looking for. It's a dry rub with the basting sauce on the side, right? May have to hit this one on the way to Minnesota and a differnet one on the way back home. Thank you sir!

Oklahoma Joe's at 47th and Mission (really close off I-35) is about the best I've had. I'll leave the descriptions to the food bloggers but I can't imagine leaving disappointed. The one in Olathe is good too. Jack Stack would be second, it's also very good. To me Gates is okay but nothing to rave about. Arthur Bryant's IMHO is one of those places you go just to say you've been and satisfy your own personal curosity. I've been multiple times and just never cared for it. The original is on Brooklyn near the 18 and Vine area. Be aware as this isn't in a great area.

Arthur Bryants, nothing fancy but the meat is the best-- 2 locations, the new one is off of 435 and the original is on Brooklyn. The Brooklyn store is not in the best of neighborhoods-----I have stopped there a few times and haven't had any problems tho. I even buy their rub at BPS.
Gates---I like their BBQ Sauce and buy that in a local store in my town.

Re: Hey Kansas City area folks... (Backlash Ar)

It really depends on what you want. Jack Stack is a nice sit down type place with great food. A. Bryants has some awsome food, but I don't go there at night. The best place in town is Oklahoma Joes, but it is in a gas station and will have a line no matter what time you go, but it is well worth the wait. If you have a place to take it, get Okey Joes to go. They have the best ribs in town, you will be busting at the seams and still debating on ordering more.

No matter where you go, you will not be dissapointed, unles you hit KC Masterpiece.

No worries, I think they're all gone.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if they remove the silver skin on the back side of the ribs or not? If not, I'll just give them a call. Thanks again!

Gates or Arthur Bryant's. To me Gates has better brisket and Bryant's has the better ribs.
The Arthur Byants restaurant that would be the easiest to get to is at the Legends off 435 by Cabelas and the Raceway.

    Re: (tkite)

What no Hayward's fans? I do hear that they have gone down in quality though. I choose my BBQ joints based on their sauce. Bryants for sure for pulled meat sammiches, their sauce is a vinegar type base. Gates extra hot sauce and their ribs can't be beat. I used to go to Haywards (more tomato) for their burnt ends. It is still my wife's favorite sauce and she is from KC. If the doors are open on a BBQ joint in KC, it's gotta be good. They don't last long if they aren't. There are some more absolutely great hole in the wall places inner city that are downright fantastic but you wouldn't want to go there if you didn't know what you were doing. KC and BBQ are one in the same!!
