    Transmission Problem ???

Posted this in the Trucks forum. Thought I would do it here as well.
Hope someone can figure this out. I have a 2007 F-150 5.4 Triton. I bought it used 2 years ago. Today I was pulling my boat to the lake ( 28 miles ) and about half way there, the truck started to vibrate. At first I thought it was the engine missing or running rough, but the further I went, it seemed more like it was in the drive train. When I pressed the gas, it would vibrate. When I let off the gas. it would stop vibrating. Started to head back home, but then I thought "what the heck" if I can make it to the lake, I'm gonna fish a while. Made it to the lake, fished about 5 hours, back to the ramp, loaded the boat and drove home. Never had the vibration again. Only thing I did differently coming back was I didn't turn off the overdrive button. Ever since I've had the truck, I've always towed with the overdrive off, which is what I thought you were supposed to do. Never had this problem before with it off or on. Anyone have any ideas ?

    Re: Transmission Problem ??? (Lockon)

Could have been anything bud...Brake caliper hanging up..Torque converter valve hanging up causing it to shudder ect

Take a look at your trans fluid..Pull the stick and wipe it on a white rag...Is it any other color than bright red..Does it look like it has metal particles in it?

If you did not get...and still do not have a check engine light and the problem is gone i would not loose sleep over it...Could have been anything...Like another poster stated...Mud in a tire..Rock in a tire ect Anything

1st off i would suspect its a engine miss may have to take it to the dealer and have the info pulled out the computer even tho the service engine soon lit didnt come on it could have a code/misfire stored. 2nd if its a 6 speed trans i would have the trans checked for a leak and have fluid checked. I still say its a mis fire tho

Thanks guys. I have not had any check engine lights or any other type warnings. I will check transmission fluid tomorrow. Just seemed really strange that it happened on the way there, but not on the way back.

even if the lite hasnt come on it could still be a misfire and it would be stored in the computer if the rite person who has the rite scanner and knows how to find it

With the storm we had here, I had a similar problem with my truck. At first I thought U-joint, then I realized it was just ice packed around the drive shaft. Took a couple of days for it to break free and drive normal again. Are you is a slushy then fast freeze area lately?

I was thinking the same. That truck is made to handle anything with the OD on. It will choose for ya. No need to rpm it for no reason.

In the mountains one might choose to stop it from OD'ing but doing it just to have something to do is not helping things.

if you have trailer brakes , you might want to check for a stuck caliper

i thought my tranny was blown a while back...i had a caliper stuck on the trailer AND the truck.....

when i fixed both the fuel economy went up too.....

I work with a guy that recently had a shudder in his F-150. Turned out to be the control module.

Gas cap OR fuel pump acting up. My son's did that, then one day it wouldn't start, just kept turning over. Mechanic told him to take a big rubber hammer and smack the gas tank hard----------the dam thing started right up. Of course he hasn't replaced the pump yet and he won't until it stops again.
