I could not agree more. I am an HVAC Tech and the Co. I work for has been looking for over a yr for a service tech but keeps hiring guys right out of school and expect them to learn on the job with out a tech there to guide them. They don't want to pay a licensed guy decent money and the benes aren't that great. I make decent money just cause I have threatened to leave many times unless I got a raise and I get health ins. through my wifes work. I would like to see the states encourage busineses to hire apprentices and train them properly through a structured training program and schooling. Then maybe we will have skilled trades people. One thing is good though is the lack of skilled people aloows me to demand more money!
