If you're want something close the river at Mill Race can be fun off the bank. The Driftwood pits in Edinburgh is nice too.

If you want to fish ponds I would go muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge in seymour. There are many lakes with lots of good fishing plus it is a neat place for kids to go.

As gary said above,the ponds at mill race are good for bank fishing as well as the river.Also there are 3 large ponds behind wal mart,menards and sam's club west of town on highway 46.You can park right behind the carwash at sam's club and have access to 2 of them,the waters really clear but you can catch plenty of bluegill and small bass.Fishing from the bank in the refuge ponds near seymour is nearly impossible because they don't mow or clean around them like they used to.Good luck and welcome to the area.
