2003 Merc 150 kill switch on nitro nx882?

I bought the boat last year and want to enter tournaments this year. However, some of the tournaments require a functioning kill switch. Not sure if mine is functioning or not because I can't find it, nor the lanyard/key. I'm assuming it has something to do with the off/run toggle located next to the throttle, but I am not sure. Any ideas?

The toggle in front of the shifter arm is the kill switch. Up is run, down is dead. Buy a lanyard, just put the loop over the switch and flip it up. When the loop is pull out it flips the switch down. The kill switch just grounds the ignition coils thru a BK/Y wire (I'm pretty sure of the color) so if when the switch is down no fire and up fire, it works.

+1.... to test it, simply start the engine, and flip the switch DOWN (engine should shut off immediately).

As long as it's functional... simply obtain the appropriate lanyard w/loop from an Authorized Mercury Dealer (Sherm @ Sherm's Marine, or we, would have these in stock).

Email or Phone are the BEST means of contacting the Parts Department(s).

Thank You for the quick responses.. I assumed this was the kill switch, but didn't see how pulling a lanyard would push the toggle down(off). If the local dealer does not have one I will most certainly be contacting to place the order.
