I've seen a few of your youtube videos, and "known to pick a tune once and a while" apparently means "I can play the strings off the damn thing."
If you are ashamed to stand by your colors, you had better seek another flag.
On the day I die I know where I'm gonna go, me and Jesus got that part worked out. I'll wait at the gate till his face I see, and stand in a long line of sinners like me.
I'm not a big fan but do listen to it at times.![]()

Good stuff! Been trying to pick Bluegrass for about 40 yrs. Can hold my own in a jam session but not professional level by any means. Check out Sierra Hull & Highway 111. Young lady can burn that mandolin up. (Not bad to look at either!)
You don't have to like the music, but if you can't appreciate the talent and musicianship that the folks at the top of this genre posess, then you don't know what you're looking at!

Thats good stuff. I took classical guitar lessons for a couple years from this guy and his wife http://directtextbook.com/prices/9780825653599
He had the worlds largest banjo band. The band played classical music. He had photos in his teaching room of himself and Earl Scruggs picking.
I first heard Earls msuic on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album 'Will the circle be unbroken" The first edition. From that I started listening to Roy Acuff, Bill Monroe, Doc Watson, Maybelle Carter, and later on Marty Stuart. Mark Oconor, Tony Rice and a few other contemporary artists. I have a lot of there music on vinyl. There is some incredibly talented musicians in the bluegrass field. If you want to hear a great song find a copy of Randy Scruggs doing "Both Sides Now" It was on that "Circle"album. Its one of the songs that inspired me to try and learn Classical guitar.

YEP ... and most of them have no idea WHO they're hating .....
Of those musicians performing on that clip:
Vince Gill. Well, everyone knows Vince. A lot do NOT know that he is a former rocker from the band Pure Prairie League. Google their old videos and see Vince with his hair down to his shoulders and a full beard.
Albert Lee (guitarist). Albert has spent years touring with several bands and performers that might be familiar to Rock listeners ... Eric Clapton & Ringo Starr for instance.
Paul Shaffer (piano). Paul has performed over the years with Chicago, Grand Funk Railroad, BB King, and many other Rock performers.
Leon Russell (organ) Who hasn't he performed or recorded with? Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, George Harrison .....
Glenn Worf (bass) Glenn has toured with Bryan Adams, Dire Straits, and many other bands over the years.
What's my point? Well, I made my living playing guitar in a Rock band from 1970 until 1983. We were "better than most". And I loved every minute of it. Do I "like" Bluegrass? Nope. Do I "like" Country? Nope. But as a musician, I DO like and appreciate talent. And every one of those guys (especially that one sitting in the middle) has more talent in their little finger than most would ever recognize.

I find that people who are not musicians have their favorite type music and think everything else is just noise. But, those who play and know something about talent and technique recognize that there are musical giants in most every genre of music. I like country, classic rock, southern rock and bluegrass but while I don't necessarily care for jazz, blues, pop, or even much classical music, I do appreciate the talent and hard work it takes to be good at those types of music. I play a little guitar and have picked a few songs on a banjo over the years and I wish I had even a fraction of the talent that those performers have.
Oh, and rap still sucks!![]()

I was watching the same video last night. I grew up in a VERY musical family and can remember sitting at my Great-grandmothers listening to my family play this stuff and singing harmony. "Salty Dog Blues", "Cabin in Caroline", "Fox on the Run", "Rocky Top". I live about 20 minutes from the home of Bluegrass music and the birthplace of Bill Monroe. Rosine, KY.
Most bluegrass musicians are extremely talented and can perform just about any style you want to hear.
yes sir, that is some fine pickin' right there!![]()
