So the local fiberglass shop owner said....

That BBS is the worst thing you can put on your boats gelcoat. He says the oily film that it has is like putting baby oil on your skin during the heat of summer, it has the same effect on your boats gelcoat. I'm calling BS!!

Maybe because he doesn't sell BBS and wants you to buy something else that he does carry....

Certianly enough folks here that use it that can post picstures of what their rigs look like after years of using it.

    Just saying....

Oh I've been using it for a couple of years and love it!! I just thought his comment about it was hilarious. Clearly he knows nothing about it, or he just needs some business. He said all you need to do is wash it after every use and wax it atleast 3 times a year. I'm pretty sure I would much rather wipe down with BBS after every use and wax maybe 2 times a year.

So using his logic oil based paint on a house can give the house a bad sunburn.

Ive never used the BBS product but Ive been in the painting industry since 1978. Unless it is straight oil the usual process is that the oil, water, synthetic resin or wax is the agent that a particular chemical compound is dissolved in to be made liquid for application. As a product dries the residual oil hardens when the compound cures to provide a protective coating.

Clearly the guy hasn't used it since there is no "oily film" to it.

Did he offer you a discount on him waxing your rig for you? I have been using it on mine for 2 years and it looks as good as the day I brought it home. He is probably hoping you quit using it so he can restore your gelcoat for you down the road!

Sounds like the guy who told me air shocks were no good for my car (back in the 80's) because he said air can't hold the weight. I asked him what he put in his tires and told him to get my car off the lift, I'd go somewhere else.

If he does fiberglass repair and painting I can see why he might say that. I am sure it is dfficult to remove and causes fish-eyes in paint and other problems (from his perspective) with stuff sticking to it

I have used BBS for at least 5 years and on several different boats. Great product.

    BINGO.

Anyone who has ever worked professionally in a body shop can give you a list of things that they won't even allow on their property ......

    Silicone spray
A diesel car or truck running
Perfume, deodorant, or cologne being sprayed

    The list is endless ......

It's totally amazing what some things can/will do to either a surface being prepped, or to wet paint being applied.
