"Fishin' With A Mission" Decal Giveaway!

After posting about Eli's birthday earlier tonight, I started thinking, and I have decided to send Eli a nice birthday gift that I'm sure he will appreciate. What I am going to do is purchase 10 "Fishin' With A Mission" decals from his website http://www.mylittlebuddysboat.com, and I am going to give them away to the first 10 people who post a brief explanation on this page as to what it would mean to them to display this decal on their boat, and help support Autism Awareness.

If any of the first 10, or anyone for that matter, would like to donate to his foundation, feel free to do so, but no donations are required what so ever. I will cover the cost of the decals, shipping to your residence. Please just provide everyone that reads this thread a brief explanation of how autism has affected you or your family, or what it means to you to help support his cause.

    Donations can be sent to:
    My Little Buddys Inc.
    c/o: Eli Delany
    965 Hammond Street
    Chestnut Hill, MA 02467

Thank you everyone, and if you are one of the first ones to post, just send me an IM with your full name and mailing address, and once the decals come in, I will send them right out to you!

I think that's an honorable thing for you to do. I don't know anyone personally who is affected by autism and I'm not replying just to get a decal. I just think it is a very kind hearted move on your part. That's one thing that's cool with BBC, there seem to be alot of genuine folks on here

Re: "Fishin' With A Mission" Decal Giveaway! (catchinweeds)

Very notable cause. I would gladly put this sticker on my boat as I know a lot of individuals with autism. I have a little cousin who I have helped train to play soccer and swim for a local organization who has autism.

As an educator I come across Autism a lot. I have seen many levels from Asperger Syndrome to Rett Syndrome. As an educator my belief is to help my students be aware of the disorder and allow them to not be scared or turned away. I help my students know that it is ok to be curious on the disorder, but not to be scared as individuals with Autism are no different than we are. I let them know they have a lot of similarities that we have, but they may function differently in an educational setting.

Remember Autism effects everyone differntly. Autism has no boundaries and I let my students know that "famous people" also have this disorder.

Most notable famous person I utilize while explaining is the creator of POKEMON, Satoshi Tajiri. This seems to reach them the closest and help them understand the most.

Great concept you have here and my hat is off to you.

First off this is a wonderful thing you are doing. I work with a lady that has a child with autism and some of the challenges they go through are amazing but they always seem to overcome them no matter what! Not only would I be putting the decal on for Eli, I would be showing my support for her through all the up's and down's she has had.

No need to thank me guys, all the thanks should go to Eli. He is the one who puts his his time and hard work to help raise awareness and funds for such a great cause.

I suppose I should write a little bit about my own personal experience. My brother-in-law is non-verbal autistic, and has never said a word in all of his years. He struggles at times, but my in-laws have given him every tool you can think of to help him communicate. He's had electronic gadgets that represent different things that he may have the desire for, and even recently and Ipad to help him get his point across. He can become very frustrated, but it's amazing how well he does manage. The funny thing is, Mike will come walking over to you, and just look at you plain as day, and you're waiting for him to just say "Hey man, Im just messing with ya."

When I approached my in-laws to ask permission to ask their daughter to marry me, the first thing that came out of their mouth was "We need to just talk about how you feel about having to take care of Mike someday." I have to tell you, I was so nervous as it was, and that just made me choke. They have been assured that Mike will always be taken care of, no matter what. Thank you everybody for supporting such a great cause, and please, if you have a couple of bucks laying around, donate to this foundation. You will feel great about it once you have.

My family and I work with a group called Joni and Friend we also work with Access Life. We go to camps for these organizations and the blessings are unbelievable. Both these organizations work with handicapped children and adults both. Handicaps of all types both mental and physical. My daughter was born at 26 weeks, she does not have any problems and is an active, sweet and loving little girl. After working with these children and adults we cannot express and thank God for all his gifts. There is no greater feeling than to see the faces of these children and adults doing and experiencing the things they normally would be told no too. I take my boat and take adults and children fishing and boat riding. My boat is wrapped to support these charities. It does not matter what the handicap is in a wheel chair or not everyone can go. From the autistic to the paralyzed it is a blessing to be there to give them their experience of a life time. I would also like to thank Al from BBC for his support and contribution to help support us in attending these camps. It is very expensive to travel and the gas for the boat and expenses. Please check out the web-site for these two wonderful organizations. It will bless your heart..

I would LOVE to display one of these decals on my boat. Fortunately I do not have anyone in my family dealing with Autism. Eli's love and support for his son and anyone dealing with Autism is truly inspiring.

You guys are all making me feel very embarrassed, I try to do the best I can with Luke but I frequently wish I could do more. I had wonderful caring parents who were the best role models for me, unfortunately my mom passed before Luke was born and my dad passed only about a month after Luke was born. I dearly wish they could have been here to help guide me when I have doubts

Sometimes I struggle to understand why with the diagnosis rate being 1 child in every 92 in the USA now being diagnosed, that our society and more large companies are not "Aware" of Autism's prevalence in our midst and want to do something about it like I do? I thank the few companies like Mercury Marine and Matt Newman of Irods and the awesome pro's like Ike, KVD, Scott Martin, John Crews, Fred Roumbanis, Kelly Jordan, Edwin Evers Bub Tosh, and several others that do get it

I thank the media and writers like Terry Brown at Wired2Fish.com and Robert Montgomery at Bassmasters who have been my long time supporters/adviser's and also the other writers and media who have given my son's cause a voice in our fishing community.

MOST of all though I thank all the people in our Bass Fishing and marine community nation wide who's support of my efforts and the "Fishin' with a Mission" decal program bring this effort to the community at the grass roots where the word is spread to affected families and hopefully they are able to connect to help and support!

It's all of you on BBC and other message boards, through out all our fishing communities nation wide that spread the word best. You guys and gals are the foot soldiers and hopefully with your "marching feet" all these kids and families will be heard

    Thank you all very much!

    Eli, Luke and Deb

Great idea!! My wife worked with an autistic boy named Colin all thru his elem. school years, he is now 13 years old and a straight A student. He touched her life is so many ways and what Eli is doing means a lot to us. I'd love to display a decal on my boat for Eli and Colin. Thanks again!

ldtr21ky, please shoot me an IM with your mailing address. I sent you one last night, but you might have your pop up blocker turned on. You can also email me your address at pooler.greg@yahoo.com.

Thank you for all the responses. It sure means a lot to me. There are still 2 decals left, but quite honestly, I wont turn anyone away.

Id love the idea the Eli has going here. He is a great inspiration to all of us who are parents of an autistic child. Thank you Eli. Our son is autistic and we are lucky we have seen some great improvements in him in the past couple years. Still has lots of issues, but has made many strides in his 9 yrs.

Thank you to Eli and everyone who has contributed to this great cause of raising awareness.

I would be honored to put the decal on my boat. My wife is a special ed teacher. It takes a special teacher to do the things she does. She has had several students with the disorder. The stories she tells me breaks my heart. It would honor all teachers and Eli. Such a unique situation for child and loved ones of kids with Autism. You may not want a Thanks, but you deserve one.

Re: "Fishin' With A Mission" Decal Giveaway! (UBF1)

Bradley, you make #11. Not to worry however, I'll purchase one more and have it sent your way.

To everyone, thank you so much for helping support this cause and getting the word out. If I had the ability to do so, I would send one to every single person on this board. You are supporting a great cause, and I thank you for it again! I talked to Eli the other night, and he told me that the decal orders get processed every Wednesday, and are sent out after the process period. They should arrive at my house within a couple of days, and if they arrive before Saturday, I will have them sent out. I have to attend a training class in Houston next week, so if they are not there by Saturday, I'll have to send them out as soon as I get home.

Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you! I know it means a lot to Eli, and also means a lot to me!

Eli, you are a great parent. I have read so much about all the many things you are doing to help raise awareness of Autism across the states. You have certainly taken this above and beyond. My user id is not to be funny or play off words, it is who I am. I am a psychologist whom specializes in pediatric psychology. I have been privledged to speak to some of the most well know researchers in the World regarding Pervasive Deveplopmental Disorders. Our numbers in the US are astounding. Due to this rising number I took it upon my self to learn more about Applied Behavior Analysis so that I could better serve my little friends. We have so much to learn and I believe one day we may even be able to find the cause and solution. Until that day, continue to share your passion with the world and as Ike would say, "Never give up!"

    P.S.
Didn't type this to get a decal. I will buy my own!
