I have a 1983 Johnson 150, Sat. at the lake the motor would not turn over a long run out of a creek. Some thing must be wrong with the chargeing system. How do I check for bad parts?

This is the only time you don't want to here "no charge" from your dealer. Break out the manual & your Ohm meter. Time to start testing parts.
OK< how do I test the parts where do I need to meter leads?
Welcome to the BBC.
Have you checked the cranking battery with a load tester?
If you want to do it yourself you really need a good manual. This is a whole chapter in it's own and not a one step test.
New battery cranking declines as the day goes on. I made a long run out of a creek and cut the engine and would not restart without changeing to one of the trolling motor batteries. Also my tach does not work could the rectifyer be bad?
Most likely its the rectifier part number 583408 @ $49.99.
You can test it but, at this point just remove the mounting bolts and look at the back of it, you will most likely see the problem.
