    200 HO Etec let loose

I am quite dissapointed in my E200HSLSO Sn 05116982 ETEC. Bought the motor in september last year, after 50 hrs. bad plugs, plugs replaced then 30 more hrs ,bad plugs back to shop, new plugs and pins on order, back to shop for new pins and plugs. Then a false overheat alarm. Pretty smooth sailing after that for a few months then yesterday,no warning, the motor locked down and when it cooled off restarted with a loud knocking. Sounds like a rod, my dealer thinks so too. Guess we will know for sure tomorrow. I really like the etec,it starts like a champ, runs smooth and quite with great gas and oil mileage(XD100) But something is wrong for this motor to blow so soon. Can they find and fix the problem? Does BRP know what is causing the failures that they have had? I still want my Etec but MAN O MAN I want to fish with a reliable motor. I'll let you know what the tec says.

Your's is a 2005 model year. We had 2 of our early 05's take #2 cylinder out. BRP sent complete powerheads and we have not had a problem since then. Other problems we seen with the 05 is the water valve being blocked open wich causes the engine to run cold and take out plugs, some prop hub failures, emm update, and the pin kit. I have heard of a few lift pumps going bad on the early models but I have not seen any. The 3.3 liters have been bullet proof for us. We do sell alot of them so we have alot out there. All are set on XD100 oil.

OK talked to my mechanic today. He said it was #3 that was bad. He printed a report for BRP and it showed a lot of run time 37% @500rpms a small % @5500 and the rest @ 4000 or in that area, 154 hours I dont remember all he said but if anyone is intrested i will post more details. The bottom line is BRP has a fully dressed 07 powerhead on the way. Should be here tuesday and then maybe on the water thursday! I feel much better with a dressed head. This should take care of anything on the engine that could have caused it. Mechanic said he did not know what went wrong, no codes indicated anything.

Won't find service with any other motor like Brp offers....

Re: 200 HO Etec let loose (21ssextreme)

I think that with any motor there will be issues, the real deal comes with service if it breaks. Looks like a few other post I have seen, though not very many have had powerhead issues that I have seen on here, all seem to be replaced with complete dressed powerheads which tells me BRP wants them things back whole so they can fix ANY issues they may have. I may be wrong on that, but not wrong in that with any post I have seen where there is an issue, it is taken care of quick and at no cost to the customer to BRP for stepping up to the plate
