Same here, but I don"t run it hard very often.I can go 26 trips & this is guideing(more weight in boat)on a gal. of oil & gets better gas milage then my old efi.One great engine.

But, most of the posts start out the same way. Some bad mouthing about a new E-Tec, but no real facts, no motor information, just some gripe that is suppose to be resolved with a magic wand. It seems most of the complaints about the E-Tec turn out not to be true, but rather some other issue, like set-up, rigging etc.

There have been plenty of trolls on this board, just trying to stir up crap (I'm not implying this topic is). I just gets suspicious when someone that doesn't post much (or at all here), starts out with a negative post (again, not implying this topic is).

Procraft Mike hit it on the head. It seems that lately on alot of sites it's open season to Bash ETEC however don't you say a bad thing about Merc or any of the other brands.

Basser is there anyway you can talk your dealer into going on a ride with you. He can hook up his laptop and pretty much tell to the tenth of a gallon how much fuel you are using at the speeds you are running.

    Re: MPG (gtm1086)

I went from an old 90 horse Carb Merc. to the 2005 225 etech ho and I spend less on gas then before. The main reason I believe is the old Merc used to be run at full throttle, while the etech is run about 3/4 or less throttle a majority of the time. So I would say it gets great gas mileage. I rarely run her wide open and it seems to get the best gas mileage around 50 MPH. My boat is a 21X triton, so they are pretty light which helps the gas mileage too.

    Re: MPG (basser201)

I did not think i posted a negative post or bad mouthed about a E-Tec to start out with.I'm just trying to find out why my gas mileage is so bad the e tec site said thay went 164 miles at 5600 rpm at 73.7
mph to come up with 3.4 mpg. That can not be at wot.

My dealer has a book that states wot is 2.0 mpg.
    cruising speed is 3.0 mpg.

So enough of the bickering about negative post or bashing of e tec as stated in earlier post I absolutly love this motor! I would buy another e tec 225ho if i had to.Period! Buy the way gtm1086 I HATE MERCURY Period!
But that is a issue that between me and merc service and there crappy warranty.

cfieldbasser i think between making short hops with alot of holeshots and running wot
have alot to do with my gas mileage from earlier post

Ok hears the deal went out and filled up both gas tanks (25 gal each).Went to the river and ran 19.24 miles at 4400 rpm 5/8 trim (had to keep jp all the way down due to it would fall off pad at low rpm's) ran 58-60mph. loaded back up and filled gas tank back up 4.074 gals thats comes out to be 4.7mpg

Went back out ran wot 73.3 at 5600 rpm same miles as before loaded back up and filled gas tank 10.32 gals that is 1.8mpg

So what i can see is keep my big fat azz foot off the hot foot.

If i afended anybody I AM SORRY.

    Re: MPG (basser201)

Brian, that's great MPG at 4400... Wow, I sure didn't think MPG would have been that bad at WOT, Evinrude reports don't show it... I bet running at 5000 would be alot better than that WOT level.
I think Inky Davis is running a Bravo I 4-blade propeller, a prop change might help your overall gas mileage. In fact, Bass & Walleye Boats had a report pitting the Merc Opti, Yamaha HPDI and E-tec HO 200s and running a 27 Merc Trophy on the e-tec raised the AVERAGE MPG (average of all rpms levels) to 4.1 compared to AVERAGE MPG of 3.7 for the 28 Raker. There was less than 1 MPH difference in top-end between the 27 Trophy and the 28 Raker...

Having said that, I've read some posts by some of the moderators that if the motor does not warm up to satisfactory temperatures that the computer will put additional fuel to the motor to try to get the temperature up. I think I said that right... Straighten me out Mods!!

I am running a 28 Bravo I & the most rpm"s it has turned is 5830 & I am about 3" below the pad.If I had a HD plate,I could make all of the numbers rise.

I"am curious,if you lose this much mileage at WOT & if it is not a set up problem or engine problem, could you have a possible hook in the hull that makes the boat drag somewhat at the higher rpm"s?

You might try testing another way also.Run all of the gas out & put,say,5 gals in the tank or whatever & run WOT until you run out & divide the # of gals you put in,by the # of miles you ran on the gps.ps-carry some extra gas or have someone there to tow you in.

Inky, I was thinking if Brian runs a prop that has a better holeshot that would save him some gas overall...

    Re: MPG (basser201)

Brian, don't let your pitch get too low, that could kill your MPG as well... Wouldnt hurt to try it though... If you have the vent holes opened up on the 28 Raker that would help the holeshot on it. A 27pitch Tempest Plus with the PVS plug system would be pretty good too.

Don't know if this is true or not but i was told that the tempest would slip on the shaft (or something like that) and rub the 2 bolts on inside of exhust hub.I would like to try a 27 tempest if this is not the case.If someone knows the facts about this please inform me.

Brian, I can't answer that about the hub problems. I know you will need a flo-torq II hub kit to fit BRP. I know that some have run the 27 Tempest Plus on a 225HO e-tec. I think you would find this article interesting...

    Re: MPG (basser201)

Brian, I imagine knocking just 200-300 rpms off WOT would make a difference in your MPG. There still could be something going on with the engine that could be hurting the gas mileage. Like SeaHorse said, running 73 at 1.8 MPG would be 40 gallons per hour burned, and I can't imagine it burning that much gas, even at WOT...

    Basser201,

As you know I run an '05 E-Tec 225 HO....I am getting between 4.4 and 4.7 MPG and 90% of my running is @ WOT....You might look at a diffrent prop....With me running a Dual Console 200 PRo XL, I am probably carrying an extra 100 to 150 pounds than you are...I would expect much better fuel mileage!!!

    I am running @ WOT max RPM's of 5650 RPM's!!!

Those are the kind of # i would like to see.
My boat is Dual Console also.Being that my boat is a 96 and had transom work done it is most likely heavier. What prop are you running?

Hey, my XP 150 will probably get better gas mileage than your GT200 therefore, he should trade with me and enjoy the 2.04 MPG that my XP affords.

Check this latest time out performance of my XP!

Me and my Peetie-Pie went crabbing today! Out on the water by 6.0 am in by 9.0 am. Maximum speed 36 MPH, total average speed 7 MPH, Total trip Odometer 20 Miles, Total time 02:51:20 Fuel used 9.776 gallons @ $2.89 per gallon and two mile per gallon, trip cost $28.34 (ouch my motor is a gas hog). Caught 71 # 1 males.

Not bad for two old folks. :)
