    Hard Starting Ficht

I have a '99 200hp Evinrude Ficht that will not start unless I turn the key (don't crank), wait, repeat 2-3 times, then crank. It's like it takes forever for fuel to get there.

I pump the bulb up hard with no difference.

Fuel pump?, fuel filter?, clogged injector(s)?

    Any ideas,

    Thanks,

    Scott....

    Welcome to the BBC.

This may sound a bit off track but, when was the last time you changed the spark plugs?

    Re: Hard Starting Ficht (RUSTY63)

I thought about the plugs, so I just changed them this week before a trip to Texas. It definitly was due, and did idle much smoother, but no difference in starting.

How about the fuse for the injectors located near the EMM? Did you check that?

Didn't even know there was one.

The motor idles and runs great, so I assume it has to be something that is common for all cylinders.

Ok, when you turn the key on do you hear the fuel pump run?

    Re: Hard Starting Ficht (ranger_391)

You should put a fuel pressure gauge on the "tire valve fitting" and make sure it goes up to about 25# when you turn the key on and holds about 15-20# with the key off.

Yes, the pump runs slightly longer then the system check (sequence of lights and horn). I am assuming I am letting the fuel pump 2-3 times to get enough fuel.

Now follow Seahorse's test and see what the fuel pressure is.

    Yes one pump.

    Re: Hard Starting Ficht (RUSTY63)

Thanks again for the help. It will be a while until I can test it. I just returned from a Lake Fork trip, and here in Northern Wisconsin, winter is still going pretty good. Another foot of snow last night that I had to plow before I could pull the boat into the garage!
