    Plug wires?

How often should you change plug wires on a outboard? I always change the plugs every couple years but for some reason never thought about the wires. The wires on my GT-150 look like the originals. Who sells a good set of replacement wires?

The wires can last a long time but I change them when I feel them get stiff or if they look like they aren't getting a good seal around the coil or plug. When they dry rot or get brittle , the spark travels down the outside of the plug to ground. I use the factory wires, cut to length on the motor. Use only the wires that are recommended on the DI and E-tec, they will not interfere with the EMM( not like an E-tec needs a new wire right now). The 60 degree 150/175s are prone to missfire using anything but what is recommended for the ignition. I'd see the dealership for the wires, you can't go wrong that way. While you are changing the wires on the GT 150, remove the ignition coils and clean the grounds, check for cracks in the coils. Use silicone grease around the boots when you install the new wires, use it where you primary leads also. It'll keep the moisture out.

Thanks for the advise! They look pretty good but I will probably change them this winter.

Hope your setting down when you order them, about $12 each. Better off building them out of ACCEL plug wires, plus they look cool.

When you recommend the ACCEL plug wires. Which wire type are your referring too, radio suppressor carbon or plain wire. I believe you are referencing the wire type.

Re: Factory plug wires are $10.25 each

x 6 cylinders that's $61.50 +tax. You need the solid core wires just like the factory supplied.

Your dealer should stock the 100' roll of Packard 440 spark plug wire from BRP that sells for less than $1 a foot. If the plug boots and spring connectors are OK, you can get by for about $6. The boots for the coil and plugs are available separately if needed.
