The wife kids and I have a camper and a lot we lease on Lake Guntersville. It's not much but it's where we spend a lot of time there instead of vacationing elsewhere. Today I received a call that someone had either tried to or broken into my camper. I rush down there and I find where someone tried to pry open the door. They bent the aluminum lip on the door and tried to get their tool behind the door to pry it open. I had both the lock and dead bolt locked or they would have gotten in and inside they would have only gotten a $40 TV that I picked up from the pawn shop, everything else was brought home when the camp closed.
Went to look around the campgrounds and found every camper in our section but one had the same damage and some were actually broken into and ransacked, I'm not sure if anything was taken but I'm sure the damage to the doors were more than they took. I have insurance but just damn the people that want to ruin someones property that they have been working all their life to get.
The power is turned off but I'm so damn tempted to have my wife drop me off with my propane heater and stay 2 or 3 days during the week just to catch the SOB's.

YEP ... it's a shame. But there will ALWAYS be scumbags out there that would rather steal than work. I have a Ted Nugent approach: If I ever catch anyone in my house, they're DEAD. If they have the guts to come inside, I have the guts to end their life. My wife also has the same attitude. We'll shoot until they quit breathing.

I read something (somewhere) that was talking about a rash of vehicle break-ins at a certain ramp on Guntersville. Don't remember which one, though.

We used to deal with that a lot. My parents owned a convenience store in a rather rough neighborhood. After an armed robbery they installed a security camera system. One morning they're checking the tapes and the kid that lived across the street shows up on it, in the middle of the night. He picks up a cinder block and tries to throw it through the plate glass door entrance to the store. It bounces off. Now here is where it gets fun. He looks over at the camera, and disappears for a moment. Then he reappears RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA. He got a ladder and tried to change the angle of the camera, AS HE IS LOOKING DIRECTLY INTO IT . He finally gave up and went home. Mom & Dad called the police, showed them the tape and they went over to his house. When he answered the door, he was wearing the exact same clothes as he was wearing in the video. . True story. Total mental giant there And yes.... he plead INNOCENT (to no avail)

I grew up around there, lots of it going on now, unfortunately. The meth addicts will steal anything they think they can make a dime on. They've even stole the entire lower units off of outboards.

Riverview, The camp closes from Nov. 1st until Feb. 28th. I'm pretty sure that it's some kids or meth heads.

Just found out that a member was there Thursday and saw 3 trucks parked in front of the gate. He looked around but didn't see anyone but he wrote the the tag numbers down. All I need is a name.

Any way to hide a trailcam? One with infrared on it so there is no flash? You may be able to catch them red-handed. Just a thought vs. trying to hang out hoping they re-appear.

I'm going through the thoughts of this scenario right now. I'm fixing to put my boat on a lift at our dock. I'm not going to leave ANYTHING in it when it's unattended, but that won't stop the juvenile delinquents and druggies from tearing it up when they can't find anything to steal. But I suppose that you can't go through life not enjoying things simply because you're concerned about theft or idiots messing your property up.

Got a little story that happened at a near by lake several years ago. There were several instances where the utility tool boxes and cat converters of trucks in the boat accessparking lot were broke into and tools taken and the catalitic converters were sawed off the exhaust of the trucks. To make this story short several victims got together, hid in the woods by the parking lot and caught the thirves. The victims then called 911 to tell the authorities they had caught the thieves at the lake who had been breaking into, stealing equipment, and catalitic converters from trucks. The vandalism victims told the 911 operater to tell the law they had 10mins to get to the ramp for the safety of the thieves. It took approx. 15 mins for the law to get to the ramp. I was informed the thieves were found Duct tapped to 4 Pine trees in the middle of the parking lot with very little of their faces showing to allow them to breath. There were multiple bruses also found on the thieves arms and legs. Now that is justice.
