    Primer bulb

I have a 1997 Evinrude Intruder and my question is. I pump up the primer bulb until it is firm and the boat starts and runs great. But after I have been stopped for awhile. I start the motor and it dies. I go back and check the primer bulb and it is soft again. Anyone know what might be going on. When it was cold out side it never did that. But now that it is hotter than the gates of H@## it started doing this? Any help would be great appreciated...

Need to check the fuel system for air leaks. The air will replace the fuel in the system and will make it hard to start later.

I think the best place to start would be around the fuel line.......

Now, if that runs through your rod locker that may be a problem.

    Re: Primer bulb (Horace Brooks)

the way i fixed mine, without having a lot of troubleshooting.

replace all fuel lines and clamps, replace the primer bulb.

all in all cost approx, 40.00 for all, and i didnt have to waist an evening trying to find the leak.

    hope this helps

!!!DANGER!!! be VERY careful when replacing fuel lines. The plastic fittings the lines slide onto break pretty QUICK, and then you are sitting there looking kinda foolish!

now..now... I didn't call any names. I just thought I would let him know to be very GENTLE on the fittings when replacing fuel lines. It COULD be a job that cost more than $40 if you break a fitting.

    Re: Primer bulb (Horace Brooks)

    Hello Horace,

Did you ever get your leaky fuel line fixed? I finally got around to repairing mine. My leak was at the in-line fuel filter under the cowl. I just cut the hose ends and moved the clamps back and voilà the leak is gone, bulb stays firm and the filter does not empty and cause the engine to die. In fact it will idle all day long on the hose.
Next year I will probably replace all the fuel line under the cowl.
Didn't cost me a dime, just a little time.

Good luck fishing, and I will start crabbing tomorrow.

    Regards,
