    Deceleration Knock?

I purchased a boat with a 1995 Evinrude 150hp Intruder on it (serial # G 03931537) last year. I noticed this year that when I throttle down quickly from wot I can hear a slight knocking sound from the motor. I heard that this "deceleration knock" was common for Eagle series motors. So my questions are what can be done to fix this, and since it is an 11 year old motor, what damage could it have done since this problem was obviously not addressed by the previous owner? Thanks.

Check the adjustment on your shift cable. Make sure it fully engages into forward. If it is only part way engaged I have the lower unit will ratchet when decelerating. It sounds like knocking. Lower units won't last very long run this way. Get a manual and follow the instructions.

The lower unit is fine ... it has lasted for 11 plus years and is still in great shape, the sound is definately coming from the powerhead. Does anyone know if changing the carb jets will solve this problem?

Not uncommon to hear piston slap on a Truder due to rapid decelleration. B&WB did a hop up on one from Monty Racing and they still encountered the slap. I believe if I remeber correctly that it was a motor of your vintage. Just do a gradual cut back on the throttle and it should go away. I know this sounds like a non fix but it is a nature of the beast.

I've got a '96 115 OceanPro that started dowing that a few years ago and I've just learned to throttle down a tad slower. What's weird is that it doesn't do it every time I take it out. I also asked a few old timers I know and they tell me it's normal on some of those motors and not to worry about it.
