Ignition and Dame Fuse Problem HELP

I have just recently rebuilt a 1979 Ranger Bass Boat that has a 1977 115 Johnson. Every time I replace the fuse on the top left side of the motor just beside the starter it will blow. It is a small inline fuse I think 32V 20AMP. It was running fine then all of the sudden it started this. Can anyone help in solving this issue I am new to the outboard motor world and really frustrated.

You have a direct short on the engine. Check the key switch first, Check the red wire on the harness front to back.

    Welcome to the BBC.

Try this, buy a head light from your local store, auto parts, wally world, lawn mower shop, what ever, just get a cheap head light, one with two terminals on the back, attach one wire to each terminal on the head light.

Now use the head light as a fuse...IE:, one wire in the top of the fuse holder and one wire in the bottom.

A short is basically a hot and a ground that are touching, when this happens to a fuse it is designed to blow......a head light will light up (burn) while you have the short.

With the head light as a fuse start to disconnect each electrical connector until the head light goes out, when it does, that is your short.

By the way....DO NOT lay the head light on your CARPET.

    Hope this Helps.
