    Is This Fixable?

Went out this morning and managed to find a large rock in the middle of the lake. I was only going at idle speed, but now my tilt and trim will not work at all. I pulled the screw out to check the fluid after I got back on the trailer, and it was air and watery. Drained and refilled, and after trying to get the motor to lift for about 15 seconds, more air. Any ideas what this could be or how to fix it? The boat guy in town wants $300 for a 30 year old part that matches mine. If nothing else I'll carry a slotted screw driver with me and just not have tilt/trim

    What motor?

$300 is not a bad price for a trim and tilt unit. I am assuming that is installed? Offer him $250 if it isn't installed.

Would the tilt/trim on my 2000 115 Ficht fit (large gearcase)? I've got a bad cylinder and I'm replacing the Ficht w/ an E-tec...although I'd rather sell it as a unit, I would consider parting it out.

Being almost 30 years old, I'm thinking a new rig is in order. You are in vintage parts now, $300.00 is not bad, But you may want to put it toward a newer rig. Your engine is going to nickle and dime you every weekend. If you hit something hard enough to kill the tilt unit, I'd be planning on some gearcase work.

a newer rig really isnt an option.

unfortunatly, college before fishing, at least for another year or two.

I did find the part I need on ebay for $115. And I do have a motor lift. The trim was acting up before I did bump the rock, I'd have to bleed air from the line about once a month and add fluid.

Your trim unit is the Showa built one and will not work on the older engines like the previous poster has.
