    Coon calling.

Started daytime calling coons for the year with some decent success. Been out 3 times and shot 10, 11 and 8.

    Here are a couple pictures.

Dog wanted in the picture also but was not along for the hunt. He would rather have been pheasant hunting. lol

I bet that's fun, what do you use to call them?

I use a FoxPro caller and decoy. I have the best luck with young coon distress sounds and also coon fight sounds. It is a TON of fun!!
I have had coons a bunch of times come running up and attack the caller/decoy. They attack it and then kind of give it a funny look 'like what the heck was that' and run off. A couple of times they have come back for a second attack.

I normally try and shoot them before they get a chance to beat up my stuff though.

Good job. Have heard about that before but never tried it. My deer woods could sure use a thinning of the coons. We might have to time that Erie trip to coincide with some coon calling.

That's too neat. I wish I could have done that back in the late 70's. I could have gotten rich. I bought my first truck with the money I got from coon pelts.

Matt; that would be a great time for sure!!

Fishnfool38; I use a foxpro jack-in-the-box with the coon topper. I think a decoy does help to get the reluctant ones to come on out but a decoy is not a must have. You can and will kill coons with just the caller.

Roddy that makes 2 of us that wishes we knew about it years ago!

In 1978 I was working for about $3.50 and hour. Coon hides arouond here would bring $20 for a good coon. I was clearing 4 to $500 a week on mostly coons in season between hunting and trapping. I thought I was rich.

That was dang good money back then!

I used to hunt with hounds in high school and college, this would have been in the 80's though. Got enough to pay for gas and upkeep on the dogs and that was about it.

I did the same thing Roddy in the same time frame, but I did not have the same success but it sure helped out with the gas money back then.

I ran a trap line and I hunted most every night. I would go hunting after going out on dates on Fri and Sat. nights. I didn't use a caller to call them in, just to make them look at my light. Gas was cheap back then so I could trap all over the whole county. Probably didn't average 4 hours sleep a night during season. Big reason I wasn't a straight A student.
