Learned something new today about the Merc 200's

I spoke with two different people at Mercury Marine and they both said these two motors are identical except for the decals and few very minor non-performance details..

The 200 ProXS is the only motor that uses the same internal components as the Optimax. All ProXS's other than the 200 have carbon fiber reeds, special injectors and calibration/tuning.

Re: Learned something new today about the Merc 200's (GRR884)

It was my understanding that the only difference WAS that the 200 pro XS had carbon fiber reeds for better mid range punch and responsiveness as the 200 opti is already pushing at the max of 220 hp at the prop, nothing else could be done. They also were the only motor in the pro xs lineup that was recommended to use the opti oil. NOW all pro xs's have been advised to use the opti oil due to poor fuel quality however they used to be recommended to use premium plus. All except for the 200 pro xs.

Another funny thing, the pro xs is on normal $1,000-1,500 cheaper than the regular opti.

That's what I thought too but Merc said no. Same SS reeds as the Optimax.
