Trolling motor trouble

I have a 82# MG tour edition that I had a new head put on couple of days ago. Bought a new plug ( male and female) hooked them up just like the instrutions said to. Plug it in and sparks flew, not sure what happened but now the motor won't do anyhting. I know I should have a breaker on the wire but theres not one . SO I am at a lose as what to do now.

sounds to me you may have fried something ... also that the wiring wasn't put together right .... good luck ...
also might have melted a solder wire off somewhere

You wired the plug wrong I bet. Some plugs have the blade jumper in the plug, Others dont and rely on the jumper wire at the batts.

you may have hooked the new plug up correctly, but you are assuming that the receptacle side is wired correctly as well... head might be ok, but I would bet the socket isn't.

I pretty sure something is fired becasue you can hook it up direct and nothing. Knew I should have went with my gut and wired direct.

Be sure to install a breaker this time!

Did you check the fuses/breakers at the batts? Have you tested the receptacle with a volt/ohm tester?

Last thing you need is a fire in the boat.. Those batts have more amps than your house. Get circuit protection.

Atleast get these... Some are auto reset, some manual >> http://www.ebay.com/itm/RIG-RI...847fd

These attach right to the battery post... You will need bigger gauge ring terminals for your wire. The closer these are to the batts, the better you are protected.
