60 HP E-Tec - Stumble Issue for Rusty

Hi All, I posted last summer regarding my 2005 60 had what I called a stumble upon rapid acceleration from idle. I had the rig out for the first time this past weekend and the stumble/hesitation/cough is still there.

The engine is 2005 60HP Model E60DPLSD, S/N 05120475, I'm turning a 13 1/4" x 17"P Michigan Wheel Rapture SS, rigged to a 2005 16'6" Lund Explorer tiller. Upon slow acceleration from idle she is fine, when you get to about the 3600RPM through the 4300/4400 RPM mark she seems runs a little rough like she's missing, you can feel this through the tiller. Above 4500RPM she's rock solid right through to WOT, which with this prop is about 5500RPM with reasonable trim.

Could this be a MAP issue? I read an article over the winter that the 60's have a solenoid controlled by the EMM for tuning the exhaust, could this be a factor?

I plan to have the new tiller kit (P/N 5006552) installed once the kit arrives at my dealer, I will have to bring the rig from the lake for this and would like to have any new software updated at that time if the stumble issue is[IMG][/IMG] MAP related.

I must say after sitting all winter for 8 months, launched the boat, turned on the master power switch, squeezed the primer and turned the key and POP she was running, just a little smoke from the winterization from last September. This is Great!

Looking forward to your thoughts. Thx. BandSand

Hi Robby, The plugs to the best of my knowledge have never been touched, straight from the factory so i'm assuming they are correct. Would plug indexing have any affect on mid range RPM's?

    Thx

There is a better map for this engine. It seems to help out on the stumble issue.

Hey rudetech1, Will the new map eliminate or reduce the stumble? Is there a BRP P/N for the MAP. By the way, the engine is programmed for XD-100 only. Thx BandSand

The map can noticeably make a difference. Some of these engines also may have cooling issues allowing them to run too cool, this makes the stumble worse, too much fuel too quickly. Don't have the part # for you , I ussually load the map by date, if it has a later version, I load it. Your tech can get you taken care of.

Hey rudetech1, Did BRP put out a service bulletin regarding cooling issue with the 60's? Would most dealers be aware of this? Thanks for your feedback. Cheers!

Most of the issues aren't in sevice bulletins. Most are with experience of the issue. Where we are, there is a lot of sand and grass that slightly holds the bypass valve open. This allows the engine to run too cool. If a component is failed, this will also cause a problem. There usually is no one problem. Just a series of output data on the laptop that needs to be monitored to make sure temp is acheived.

Re: 60 HP E-Tec - Stumble Issue for Rusty (bandsand) RESOLVED

Hi All, I just had the new tiller kit installed this past week, tried it out this past weekend, it's great. My dealer installed the lasted MAP, all hesitation/stumble issues are gone. The fuel circulation pump now cycles for about 5 seconds upon ignition switch being turned on where it did not before.

She's hums along at 3500 RPM and throttle response is much more precise.

Thanks to everyone for their input.
