    wiring question

OK here it is. I have 6 wires going to my dash. They are 3 together in two seperate small looms.
I have the large plug to the system check gauge hooked. These are in addition to the big plug going to it.

They are Purple- Grey- Black these have eyelets on them to be placed over a guage, I assume the tach ??? They have shrink tube on them as if they have never been used.

The others are Black- Purple- and white w/ brown or tan tracer. These are cut and no ends on them...... Do I assume right that these wires go to a trim gauge??? If so what is each wires function???

Boating Industry of America Wire Colors

Here are the standard wire colors used in the boating industry since the late 70s. When re-powering a boat with a newer motor this is a handy reference. Most boats use these standards but always double check in case changes have been made! BIA

    Wire Color--------------------Where it is used

    Black---------------------------------All Grounds
Black with Yellow stripe---------Magneto/short to Kill
    Gray----------------------------------Tachometer signal
    Yellow with Black stripe---------Choke
    Red----------------------------------Unprotected(12V+)from battery
    Red with Purple stripe-----------Protected(+12V)from battery
    Purple-----------------------------(+12V)from ignition switch
    Tan------------------------------Overheat sensor to warning horn
    Pink-------------------------------Sending unit to fuel guage
Yellow with Red stripe----Ignition switch to starter solenoid
    Yellow-----------------------------charging stator to rectifier
    Lt.Blue with White stripe--------Trim up
    Green with White stripe-----------Trim down

I think that dark blue is always supposed to be lights or switched plus, but that doesn't show in the list.
You should have some sort of a breaker panel coming from the battery plus (maybe then through switches to the individual instruments etc.
    Hope this helps.

    Re: wiring question (THE WITCHDOCTOR)

Craig that is very very helpfull . I believe the only wire I have in question now as it is not listed is the white wire that I assume is the trim gauge something or other.... I do not have a trim gauge yet anyway. Was told to rep[lace my merc trim gauge for the rude repower. But I have had no luck finding the one that matches mine yet.

On a Johnson/Evinrude the choke wire is purple with a white stripe.

the white/tan wire is for the trim gauge.
