    carbon guard ?

The owners manual for my 04 225HO makes no mention of carbon guard - do you guys running this engine use it at all or is it harmful in some way ? Can one of the Evinrude techs fill me in. I'm running xd50 oil. I used carbon guard religiously in my old FastStrike even at 15 yrs it was as clean as a whistle.

If you are running XD-50 then there is Carb-X mixed in with it as it is a semi-synthetic blend. You still have to de-carb once every 100 hrs. If you want to keep her clean inside then go to XD-100 and never worry about de-carb again. CM

I run the xd-100 on my 03 DI and I find it's not cost prohibitive.

I run the xd-100 also. With the direct injection they use so little oil that useing the xd-100 is not all that much more expensive.I also like not having to De-carb.

XD-100 for me. That stuff is dandy and my 03 DI sips it.

i've got an '04 225ho & nothing but xd100 has been thru her. ran the carbon guard when i first got it (2 bottles, i think), but there's really no need. still haven't seen the first puff of smoke from her.
